we were on the water this morning, and well, my fingers are't frozen at all. kind of weird considering it's february

Due to the fact, that there was no snow at all (At least in the place i live), this came not unexpected.

First time this year I had to scratch my car windows today.

But only on two sides, the others were free. Seems that wind was the key factor ;)

No worries ;)

I used to be rowing for the Ruderklub am Wannsee Berlin, but also rowed for Homberger RK, Berliner RC, Potsdamer Ruderklub Germania and Mainzer RV. But I was allways member of the RAW. The rowing pictures on that page should mostly be National Team pics from 2004 and before. Its a long time ago since my former roommate last updated the page.

Btw. Life sucks! I cannot slep at night, get like none of my work done, but have more and more to do. I really miss my girlfriend back in Berlin and am currently considering the value of our relationship... Life just sucks!

Btw, its going down to -14 C or 8F around here this night and tomorrow... really looking forward to that cold weather...

Same story here. My significant other is in Pittsburgh, I'm in Europe.

National team

not bad, i've got a long way to go, before i get anything done. this year (maybe) swiss champion, but only if the trainer's makes an eight. otherwise my chances are rather dim with 7:20

How long have you been in NY now and how long will it last?

Been here since late August last year and will be studying here for 4 years, but over the sumer and x mas I will be home. Have been together for about 4 1/2 years now.

And how do you manage?

Yep, I used to be german national team for a few years. Are you Lw or HW, for a HW 7:20 erg score is far from anything good. My pb is from last march with 5:55,1 but I will not reach that one again

You do realize how frustrating all this for us "normal guys" is? No, I don't to tell you to stop telling about it - it really is interesting, but it's pretty hard for someone like me who's looked for that something "special" in his life that makes him outstanding. I know most people are just average, but still it's depressing to realize that;)

I did not mean to cause you to be depressed. Sry bout that. But that score and 4 times national team did not come without a price. I dedicated most of my life to this sport for many years. Doing practive twice a day during school weeks, once before class, once after. Afterwards becoming member of the sportfoerdergruppe in der bundeswehr. Spending every vacation in training camps, not beeing able to party whenever you want to, not beeing able to have a job, because you do not have time, having just 4 weeks of any summer, because you are rowing.

Everything good comes with a tradeoff, in terms of rowing this trade off is gigantic. I cannot say that I did not have fun doing all this, but do not underestimate the sacrifices that need to be done for this kind of success.

I know the sacrifices and I'm not sure if I could do this, even if I had the talent. Nonetheless it would still be nice to be that talented in..well, anything;)

Everyone is good at something, I am sure you are too. If you have not found it yet, you will at some point.

Now that's just not true. Being good at something is not the same as being outstanding. Most people are just plain average - if it were diferrent, there wouldn't be an average;)

I think too, that everyone is good in some point. Good not average. But someone do never find out, witch point it is. It is hardly work with themself, to find it. For someone it is enough, to be average. ;)

Well, then you should never train to get some balls, cause that would ruin your talent :D
My talent is to make people laugh. Doesn't pay off, though. The rest of me is just Jack of all Trades. Average in many fields, superior in none.

Greets,
Mobbel

5:55? well, umm

Do you know Johannes Barth?

btw: I'm first year junior 17/18, so my chances are ok ^^

And about the Sacrifices: I know what you mean. It's really hard doing everything at once. Saying no to all friends because of training, barely having enough time for schoolwork, and being gone every vacation. I don't train that often (yet), but I will try. The problem is, that the Swiss Championship is about at the same time as my Matura (in germany: Abitur) and I'm planning on not failing that. I really don't want to do the last year again.

Yep, the name rings a bell. He used to be a great rower. How do you know him? My Erg score was done in the last of my U 23 years. When I was 17 allmost 18 and ran for junior national team i pulled 6:15,6 or something like that. So no worries. You have pleanty of time.

Now about your Matura. Doing that schoolwork really is not that hard. Thinking that not doing practive and then automatically doing better at school is a common myth. So for some reason always find various ways to waste the extra time very efficiently. I know that the Matura (I have friends in Switzerland and Austria) is very important, but you will notice that you will have enough time to do both. I have friends who went from the last race directly home for the exams, or took a plane home during the selection process and still managed both nicely. Its all a matter of time management. Do not start studying just 2 weeks before the exams. Take enough time beforehand so you do not run into problems. And if you take a day off here and there nobody will complain.

About capabilities. My rowing history is not outstanding either. Most of my frinds were more successfull than me, many of them now in the senior national team and some of them will be on tv during the olympics. Makes me a lot less special. I also suck at many things in life, but i tend to ignore them. At the moment I suck at university, bloody Ivy League is fucking hard... and I do not keep up with my workload at all at the moment.
