Adria
The Witch

The witch, Adria, arrived and assembled a shack outside of Tristram, seemingly overnight. Misunderstood by many of the townsfolk, and maligned by some, Adria arrived just in time to give information and goods to those adventurers who came to Tristram with the hope of saving it.

Adria always seemed to know much more of the conflict between light and dark, order and chaos, than she ever fully let on. She knew the minds of demons better than those who had studied them for some time, and she alone, perhaps, fully understood the gravity of the situation below Tristram.

For all her trouble and assistance, though, she could do nothing to stop the return of the demons to Tristram. Adria may have survived, but was most likely killed with the rest of the town.

-----------------------------------------------------

Akara
Rogue Priestess

Akara, a kind, motherly woman, was the eldest member of the Sisterhood when Andariel corrupted their sacred Monastery. Akara had helped to raise many of the Rogues from childhood.

The High Priestess of the Sisterhood of the Sightless Eye, Akara first sensed the troubles that would rock their Order to its very core when Blood Raven returned from Tristram carrying a secret evil about her. Soon, the two factions polarized between Blood Raven and Kashya, and the untainted of the Rogues were driven out.

Akara took solace within the Rogue encampment established at a fortified position into the lower regions, further down the mountains. Their numbers dwindled daily, either lost to the vile corruption, or dead by those who were.

Soon, however, a band of adventurers arrived, planning to stop the demons. Akara was overjoyed to see Sorceresses among these, as she had always hoped that more women would practice magic despite the sexist standards of the eastern mage-clans. Akara aided these adventurers with healing magic and information until she realized that they needed to better understand the evil, and so formed a plan to find Deckard Cain.

She devised a way to translate the runes on the bark of the Tree of Inifuss, and used those runes to harness the power of the ancient Cairn Stones, and create a portal to Tristram.

With Deckard Cain at their side, the Rogues and their newest allies invaded the Monastery, freeing many Sisters from their corrupted husks, and finally destroying Andariel.

As Akara bid farewell, gratefully, to those that had saved them, she resolved to lead her people back to their former glory.

-----------------------------------------------------

Albrecht
Prince of Khanduras

The young Prince Albrecht was carefree and innocent, and only vaguely aware of his beloved father's darkening condition. But he was trusting and faithful.

However, as Diablo's power over Leoric grew and grew, the Lord of Terror finally realized that his grasp of Leoric would never be complete. So, he relinquished his control, deciding instead to move onto a more corruptible victim, Leoric's son, Albrecht.

Lazarus, now fully under the influence of Diablo, captured the boy and stole away with him into the furthest, darkest recesses of the Labyrinth. Here, he became the vessel for Diablo. The Lord of Terror fed off the fear and apprehension of the boy, making his nightmares physical, and his fears reality. Finally, the boy grew in size, muscle and sinew rippling down his scaled body, and great horned erupted from his head and back, in an attempt to mimic the truly monstrous form of Diablo.

Albrecht's young will was battered down, and he was powerless to stop the terrors the great demon poured forth into the dungeons.

Finally, a group of heroes arrived in the labyrinth with the will to stop Diablo, and they did. However, the only survivor of that battle took the Soulstone from Diablo's skull, and pierced his own. So Albrecht was free, but the wounds carried over from Diablo were mortal, and the boy died.

-----------------------------------------------------

Alkor
The Alchemist

Alkor, the squeamish and peevish alchemist of Kurast, had little tolerance for anyone who bothered his research, unless they had enough coin to make his services worth while. When the Zakarum began to slaughter the innocent, and the jungle grew bloated and corrupted by the Hatred below Travincal, Alkor fled to the docks with the survivors, and set up shop with the same disposition as before.

But he was, albeit temporarily, impressed when he met the champions from the West for the first time. His demeanor stayed chipper, however, when he spoke to the Priests of Rathma, with whom he wished to discuss alchemical potions.

But when the heroes came into possession of the Golden Bird of Ku Y'Leh, he recognized it as the urn which contained the ashes of the ancient sage, Ku Y'Leh, and with them, he managed to concoct a potion which extended their lives.

Soon after, he came to them with more news. He knew that Lam Esen's Tome had been hidden by the Zakarum, and that it would prove very useful to the heroes' quest, so he bid them find it for him. When they did, however, it became his own quest to discern the hidden meanings beneath the cryptic Skatsimi script.

As he began to unravel the layers of meaning, he found a prophecy that did not bode well for the fate of the world. Nevertheless, he continued to encourage the champions deeper and deeper into Kurast.

When they killed Mephisto, he was uncharacteristically grateful.

-----------------------------------------------------

Andariel
Maiden of Anguish

Andariel, the sadistic Maiden of Anguish, has left a great legacy upon the Western Kingdoms. But her story begins long ago.

Belial and Azmodan, growing tired of constantly vying for the favour of Man, masterminded a scheme which would become known as the Dark Exile. Allying with Andariel and Duriel, the other Lesser Evils, they made war upon the Three, and finally, after a battle that killed over a third of Hell's forces, the Prime Evils were defeated, and banished to Sanctuary.

But Belial and Azmodan began to argue over who had dominance, and plunged Hell into another civil war that lasted for ages.

Duriel and Andariel, however, sensed the rise of Diablo in Sanctuary after centuries of slumber beneath Tristram. Seeking to finally free themselves from a pointless civil war, that did not serve their unholy mission of chaos, they offered their assistance to the Prime Evils. They overthrew Belial and Azmodan, and put the allegiance of Hell back towards the Three.

However, their jobs were not done yet. Diablo was greatly vexed by the Order of the Sightless Eye, whose sisters had destroyed many of his forces in Tristram. To avenge himself, he set Andariel the task of taking their Monastery, which served as a guardian of the path to the East, and corrupting their sisterhood.

Andariel made her home beneath the monastery and wove vile spells of mental domination, permeating the minds of the sisters. Blood Raven was the first to be corrupted, and she turned many sisters against her rival Kashya, before the untainted sisters saw the corruption that was at hand.

Andariel worked to transform the Monastery into an outpost of Hell to eternally guard the Rogue Pass, but was, fortunately, stopped by a group of heroes. However, her taint has left its mark upon the Sisterhood.

-----------------------------------------------------

Arkaine

Arkaine was a great hero of legend. He had a suit of armour called "Valor," which he left protected in a safe place. He may have been somehow connected to the Horadrim, as Valor was found beneath the Horadric monastery in Khanduras during the Darkening of Tristram, unlocked by a set of powerful Blood Stones.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ashaera
Iron Wolf Captain

Ashaera was a bold, presumptuous mage who led an band of mercenaries known as the Iron Wolves - an offshoot of the powerful and numerous Vizjerei clan. When the survivors of the massacre in Kurast fled to the docks, Ashaera and her men were watching their backs, and patrols of the sorcerers went into the jungle, destroying anything that got too close to the docks.

Some time later, a patrol encountered two robed men in the jungle, who abruptly attacked them with amazing power, killing several sorcerers and forcing the others into a retreat. Ashaera began to suspect that there were powers at play beyond her understanding. But the champions who arrived with Meshif went straight into the fray. She assured them that she could safeguard the docks, but a mistrust lingered, despite the Amazons among them. She believed that perhaps they were proprietors of the Zakarum under the guise of a helping hand.

As Hratli's magical shield around the docks began to fail, Ashaera drew more and more of the Iron Wolves back to the dockside, to handle the extra demons that managed to slip by.

But the heroes returned from the jungle with the Gidbinn, a blade of Skatsim the old religion that Zakarum had routed when it gained popularity in Kurast. With the magical warding on the dockside renewed, Ashaera allowed her Iron Wolves to join the heroes from the West.

As time wore on, she began to develop a begrudging respect for the champions, and grew to trust them after they returned the Black Book. Eventually, the defeated Mephisto, and left the Zakarum in disarray. Ashaera bid them farewell and wished them luck on their excursion to Hell.

-----------------------------------------------------

Atma
The Pub Owner

The proprietor of Atma's Public House, Atma was an elderly woman who was well-liked by the people of Lut Gholein, both for her fine ale and her gentle compassion.

When the troubles began, and demons stalked the outlying perimiter of Aranoch, a foul creature began to haunt the people of Lut Gholein, kidnapping and mutilating victims. Atma's husband and son became one of this creature's victims.

Wracked with guilt and a thirst for violence, Atma waited until finally, help arrived in the form of a band of adventurers who had destroyed Andariel and followed Diablo from the West. Atma found these adventurers, and hesitantly implored them to find the creature and destroy it. However, she began to have second thoughts, not wanting these guests to Lut Gholein to become the creature's next victims.

The creature was found to be Radament the Fallen, a mummified corpse of an ancient Horadric mage. In repayment for their avenging her loved ones, Atma appealed to the merchants in Lut Gholein to look kindly on the adventurers, and they all agreed to offer their wares at better prices.

Atma was an excellent friend to the adventurers during their stay, and was sad at their departure, wishing them luck.

-----------------------------------------------------

Azmodan
Lord of Sin

Azmodan, Lord of Sin and betrayer of Hell, is a conniving, ruthless creature whose legacy of betrayal and lust for bloodshed have given him a begrudged respect by the forces of Hell.

Azmodan is one of the Lesser Evils, and was eternally striving for dominance over Hell and favour in the eyes of the Prime Evils. However, as the Sin War began to dominate the Great Conflict, Azmodan noticed that not only was the stalemate still persistent, but also that it seemed that the Prime Evils were losing sight of their main objective: the complete domination of chaos on the realms. So, growing restless of looking for the favour of these minor mortals, Azmodan and his brother, Belial, made arrangements to ally with their other Lesser kindred, and devised a scheme that would eventually banish the Prime Evils to Sanctuary.

The alliance was made, and so was the war upon the Prime Evils. The war lasted for many years, and the forces of Hell were greatly reduced in those battles. But finally, the day was won, and the Lesser Four were victorious. The Prime Evils were banished to Sanctuary, bodiless and ethereal, where Azmodan hoped they would distract the Seraphim long enough for the forces of Hell to finally invade Heaven. However, Azmodan claimed that he had more dominance than Belial. Belial claimed the same, and so a second civil war broke out.

Eons later, Andariel and Duriel had grown tired of their war, and so betrayed them to the Prime Evils, still trapped in Sanctuary. The fate of Azmodan is not known, but the wrath of the Prime Evils is rarely pleasant.

-----------------------------------------------------

Baal
Lord of Destruction

Baal, the Lord of Destruction, was one of the most cunning of the Evils. His many minions craved nothing but Armageddon, and destroyed the living in their way. Baal celebrated his many victories with his brothers at fiendish feasts of human blood, flesh, and refuse. Baal reveled in the glory of chaos, and his name was the stuff of legends.

Baal fought like a ravaged animal during the preliminary battles preceding the Dark Exile, but in the end, he was "defeated," and banished to Sanctuary, where he found himself facing a world just asking to be struck down, and so he did.

"Mephisto's Jungle"

With the forging of the Horadrim by the Archangel Tyrael, Baal found himself always assuming new hosts to contain his evil presence, always fleeing from powerful magi whose combined might he doubted his prowess against, especially confined to mortal means. Baal fled into the desert lands of Aranoch, travelling northwards towards Scosglen, and hid within the city of Lut Gholein, while the Horadrim, under the command of Tal Rasha, waited for him to forfeit his defense. He finally did, fleeing northward, but the Horadrim were upon him, and engaged him in a rugged battle that sacrificed many acolytes. Baal, though weakened, continued to ravage their forces, until finally, he laid a blow upon Tal Rasha, who bore his golden Soulstone. Though Tal Rasha was not harmed, the Stone was shattered. The attack continued and Baal collapsed.

Tal Rasha then took the largest fragment of the Stone and slit the throat of Baal, causing the spirit of the Demon to flee his mortal host. Tal Rasha put the stone in the neck of the beast, and contained the essence, but it would not hold for long.

Tyrael then appeared, opening for Tal Rasha one of the Seven Tombs. Tal Rasha was bound within the Tomb, on a different plain of reality, and then, his chest was pierced with the Soulstone. Tal Rasha used his body to complete the prison, and then was buried deep within the desert of Aranoch, only reachable by magical means. The Canyon of the Magi, lost in the far reaches of the desert, remained secret from the multitudes.

Meanwhile, within the Seven Tombs, Baal slowly worked to break down any sign of virtue and honour the soul of Tal Rasha had ever possessed. But despite all his efforts, he remained trapped within his prison, until finally, Diablo arrived, within the body of the Wanderer, but freed from his bondage in the West. However, just as he was about to remove the Soulstone, thus breaking the sacred seal, Tyrael appeared, and engaged the demon. However, as they fought, Baal managed to lure Marius, the cowering companion of the Wanderer, to remove the Soulstone from his chest. With Baal freed, Tyrael was no match for the fury of the two brothers.

"Terror's End"

Still weakened, Baal and Diablo fled the deserts, across the ocean to Kurast, where they found Mephisto had already corrupted the land. Combining their powers for the first time in centuries, the Three opened the Infernal Gate into Hell. But only Diablo actually entered the Gate.

Baal, doubting the skills of both his brothers, fled northwards, stopping in at an asylum where Marius was being contained, he posed as Tyrael and duped Marius into handing over his Soulstone, which he could then corrupt. Baal killed Marius and laid waste to the asylum, making his way forever northwards towards the Barbarian Highlands and Mount Arreat.

Baal was next seen at the gates of Sescheron, now in his true form, and with a horde of ravenous demons on his heels and at his command. Secheron fell quickly to the will of Destruction, and Baal was free to continue onward, slaughtering Barbarian settlement after settlement, until finally, he came to Harrogath. Harrogath's elders, just before it had fallen under attack, had all sacrificed themselves to create a druidic ward around the stronghold, holding the demons at bay. All except one: Nihlathak.

"The Search for Baal"

As Baal scaled Mount Arreat, he had a deal struck with the elder of Harrogath, promising to spare the stronghold if Nihlathak handed over the Relic, which would allow Baal to enter the Fortress atop the mountain without having to face the Ancients. Baal kept his word, uncharacteristically, but Nihlathak lost his life when his treachery was found out.

Finally, the Worldstone was Baal's. However, the Fortress was invaded by human champions, who collectively destroyed the Lord of Destruction. But the damage was done. Baal had already begun to corrupt the Worldstone, and Tyrael was forced to destroy it.

-----------------------------------------------------

Bartuc
Warlord of Blood

Bartuc was a great Vizjerei sorcerer long before the time of the Dark Exile. He fought demonic forces alongside his brother, Horazon, for many ages. However, over time, his spirit faltered, and he was lost to the darkness. He agreed to fight for the side of Darkness in return for great strength and years. He quickly became one of the greatest warriors the realms had ever known, but it was not a perfect deal.

Bartuc had, now, an insatiable thirst for blood. The sight, the touch, and smell seduced him in a way he couldn't explain. He was seen bathing in the blood of his enemies, still in full armour, after his victories. His armour, after many of such victories, became tinted a crimson red; the colour of blood. As he continued in his quest for the glory of Hell, he found his every waking moment permeated with his lust for blood. His name would live on in legend as the Warlord of Blood.

Bartuc eventually came to face his brother, Horazon, at an epic battle at Viz-jun, and it was here that the Warlord was finally defeated. But as he died, he became for Hell one of its greatest soldiers.

When the rise of Diablo began in Tristram, the powers were so strong that parts of Hell began to leak into reality, where a veritable outpost of the unreal was formed. With it came the spirit of the Warlord of Blood, now made physical by the fears and terrors of the townsfolk of Tristram.

The Warlord was released under the Cathedral, and he killed many of the would-be heroes who ventured too close to his lair. However, the Warlord of Blood was killed, once again, by a group of heroes who would eventually defeat Diablo.

Bartuc was again called into service by the Dark Lords when Baal began his takeover of Mt. Arreat. He was reincarnated into human form, demented as the High Council of Zakarum, serving as one of the five protectors of Baal. He was defeated.

-----------------------------------------------------

Beetleburst

The name Beetleburst was given to this creature by the only survivors of his clutches. Stalking the only oasis in Aranoch, Beetleburst and a band of Scarab Demons became renowned for their quick movements, which they used to surround and destroy their prey. Beetleburst stood between Cain's adventurers and the Valley of the Snakes, which they could not abide, and, despite a ruthless fight, was killed.

-----------------------------------------------------

Belial
Lord of Lies

Belial, the Lord of Lies, has become known among the ranks of Hell as one of the most treacherous and deceitful creatures of all time, even by their own standards.

Belial is one of the Lesser Evils, and was eternally striving for dominance over Hell and favour in the eyes of the Prime Evils. However, as the Sin War began to dominate the Great Conflict, Belial noticed that not only was the stalemate still persistent, but also that it seemed that the Prime Evils were losing sight of their main objective: the complete domination of chaos on the realms. So, growing restless of looking for the favour of these minor mortals, Belial and his brother, Azmodan, made arrangements to ally with their other Lesser kindred, and devised a scheme that would eventually banish the Prime Evils to Sanctuary.

The alliance was made, and so was the war upon the Prime Evils. The war lasted for many years, and the forces of Hell were greatly reduced in those battles. But finally, the day was won, and the Lesser Four were victorious. The Prime Evils were banished to Sanctuary, bodiless and ethereal, where Belial hoped they would distract the Seraphim long enough for the forces of Hell to finally invade Heaven. However, Azmodan claimed that he had more dominance than Belial. Belial claimed the same, and so a second civil war broke out.

Eons later, Andariel and Duriel had grown tired of their war, and so betrayed them to the Prime Evils, still trapped in Sanctuary. The fate of Belial is not known, but the wrath of the Prime Evils is rarely pleasant.

-----------------------------------------------------

Bilefroth
The Pit Master

As one of Inarius' most trusted and loyal disciples, Mephisto's wrath upon this former man was slow and torturous. Bilefroth the Pit Master was transformed through magical and vile physical means into an Overlord, a creature of ugly flab and flesh. Bilefroth, as he was now called, hated any living creature who was not as disfigured at himself.

Bilefroth was among the demons banished from Hell with the Three, and lived in lonely exile in the wilds of the world until centuries later, when he would be culled back to the monastery. He fought for his new master with hateful vigour, but would be slain by the heroes from the surface.

-----------------------------------------------------

Bishibosh

The undisputed religious leader of the Fallen Ones in the West, Bishibosh is so honoured that Shamen will shout his name as they prepare to enter battle.

Bishibosh ruled from a camp within the cold plains in the Tamoe highlands. He used primitive spells to weave fiery enchantments into his attacks, and protected himself from many offensive magics. Despite all his trying to protect himself, Bishibosh was slain during the retaking of the Monastery.

-----------------------------------------------------

Blackash
The Burning

One of the Burning Dead, Blackash the Burning was assembled from an unknown corpse beneath the darkened town of Tristram. He defended the convictions of Diablo by directing his brethren to fire their bows on any who threatened the unholiness of the monastery. He fell under the force of the adventurers from above.

-----------------------------------------------------

Blackjade

One of Archbishop Lazarus' protectors, this Succubus was a great general in Diablo's armies of darkness. So, her ruthlessness and legendary status among the ranks of demonesses put her into Lazarus's chamber. However, for all her cunning and power, she was slain by the group of heroes who raided Lazarus' dark altar.

-----------------------------------------------------

Blackskull

Blackskull, despite his inability to breathe fire, was one of the most notorious of the dreaded Balrog demons, fought with hellish vigour and ruthlessness in the civil war before the Dark Exile. His loyalty cost him his place in Hell, and he was banished to Sanctuary along with his master, Diablo. Blackskull remained in hiding, brooding over his misfortune, until Diablo called him to the monastery in Tristram.

Blackskull staked out the outpost of Hell that began to form, and defended it as best he could, but he was eventually defeated by the Champions of Tristram.

-----------------------------------------------------

Blackstorm

Blackstorm was one of the strongest of the Obsidian Lords, but still had their handicap of mindlessness. Blackstorm, after the Dark Exile and the success of the Horadrim, searched Aranoch for his master, Baal. Centuries passed, until finally, Blackstorm was called back to Khanduras.

His disappointment over it being Diablo rather than Baal passed as he learned Diablo's master plan. He lived in the caves below Tristram and attempted to kill all who passed his new domain. However, he was easily defeated by quick thinking champions.

-----------------------------------------------------

Bladeskin
The Slasher

Bladeskin the Slasher was a daring and strategic soldier, according to his brethren, but this was only because he battled them ferociously to get the best and most pretty objects. He worked alone, hording his wealth to himself. But when faced with someone who has the stature of a human, he was afraid and fled when he saw his brethren slain. However, he upped his courage and returned for another round, which cost him his life

-----------------------------------------------------

Blightfire

The deadly archer of the Fire Clan had always wished to further his efficiency for destruction. He dove into the magical art of channeling one's lifeblood into a single burst of energy; the Blood Star. He sacrificed a drop of blood for every shot he made on his magical bow. And so, since he gave gallons of blood every day, it has given him an insatiable thirst for more.

He had taught the art to several other members of the Fire Clan, who shared his lust for the blood of innocence. But in the end, it was not enough to defeat his foes, and he was slain.

-----------------------------------------------------

Blighthorn Steelmace

Like his compatriot, Deathshade Fleshmaul of the Stone Clan, Blighthorn Steelmace, a legend within the ranks of the Night Clan, learned to charge like the Horned Demons and use their own horns to stun their prey. Blighthorn was born in Sanctuary, unlike many of the other great Goatmen.

Blighthorn, like the rest of the Night Clan, was called from the far reaches of Khanduras to destroy Tristram. But he was killed by the champions of Tristram before he ever got the chance.

-----------------------------------------------------

Bloodgutter

The undisputed leader of the Fire Clan, Bloodgutter was the greatest warrior of his time, spilling the blood of demons in the mock wars, and innocents in the real ones, with deadly proficiency. Banished with the rest of the Fire Clan during the Dark Exile, Bloodgutter continued his killing spree in Sanctuary. When he was called to Tristram, he expected mass slaughter, and was disappointed to learn that Diablo needed the townsfolk to feed off their fear.

Bloodgutter was known to sometimes kill his fellow demons in the catacombs, and when finally he had innocents to slay, they took him out first.

-----------------------------------------------------

Bloodlust

Bloodlust, like most of the succubi, abandoned Andariel during their time in Hell to seduce their way into places of power with the male demonlords. Bloodlust's target was the Lord of Terror. Becoming his personal concubine put her at his side, and he granted her more strength and power than she imagined.

Bloodlust began to rethink her decision as she was banished from Hell. Bloodlust found that her innate craving for human blood, though, was insatiable in Sanctuary, and she roamed the night skies of the Tamoe mountains, raping and murdering humans and lapping the blood from their still-warm bodies. When she was called to Tristram, she immediately obliged. Diablo stationed his best-loved whore at the entrance to his lair, trusting her to guard him adequately.

She didn't, and she was killed.

-----------------------------------------------------

Bloodskin Darkbow

Bloodskin Darkbow, of the Flesh Clan, was a sadistic archer who rose among the Clan to be one of the most prolific generals of the Goatmen. He helped to organize the occupation of the catacombs, and stayed there himself, waiting with his minions for any adventurer to get too close.

One did, but Bloodskin did not survive the encounter.

-----------------------------------------------------

Bloodwitch
The Wild

The arrival of the Sabre Cats in Aranoch is unusual and unexpected, but some speculate that it was the ruthless, powerful huntress, Bloodwitch the Wild, who forged a pact with the Evils and had her people brought to Aranoch to serve the interests of Hell.

As reward, she was given strength and stamina to keep her in her position of power, as well as a vile whip that left a necromantic curse upon those it struck. In return, the Sabre Cats stalked the dunes of Aranoch, killing anything that could threaten Diablo and Baal.

Bloodwitch herself was given the task of guarding the only Horadric Cube in the area, which would, in dichotomy with other Horadric artifacts, open the tomb of Tal Rasha. If she knew of its importance, though, she might have given the task to another.

The adventurers who defeated Andariel raided the Halls of the Dead, killed Bloodwitch and her party, and took the Cube.

-----------------------------------------------------

Blood Raven

Blood Raven fought valiantly in the battle at Tristram, leading a fearless band of Rogues who aided in Diablo's defeat. Blood Raven returned with her followers to the Rogue Monastery with the glory of many battles on their shoulders. But many of their Sisters had been slain, and a dark cloud seemed to hang over the moods of the returning sisters.

Soon, as the Wanderer arrived at the Monastery, the corruption became more and more apparent. The Rogues polarized between Kashya and Blood Raven, and Blood Raven drove the untainted Sisters from their ancestral home.

Blood Raven and the other Sisters' corruption began to manifest itself physically, deforming many of the Rogues. Raven, however, left the Monastery and was not heard from for many days, until Kashya heard from her scouts that, to her horror, Blood Raven was using hellish magics to raise the Order's dead as zombies.

Too distraught to kill Raven herself, Kashya forcefully implored the adventurers who had cleared out the Den of Evil to find and destroy Blood Raven. She was found in the graveyard, where she had desecrated the burial grounds into a barracks for the undead, at the centre of which was a gallows tree. Blood Raven was killed in battle, and her soul was released from her corrupted form to finally find solace.

-----------------------------------------------------

Bluehorn

The leader of the Frost Chargers, Bluehorn was one of the most feared minions of Baal during his time in Hell. And when he fled Hell after the Dark Exile to search for his master, and centuries later was culled to the monastery in Tristram, where he waited with his Frost Chargers for anyone foolish enough to face him. Ironically enough, he was defeated.

-----------------------------------------------------

Bone Ash

Formerly a Rogue Priestess of great power, Ash's undead remains twisted the Inner Sight, to give her dark magical powers over cold and poison. Stalking her way out of the catacombs, Bone Ash, as she now called herself, worked her new powers to desecrate and befoul the once sanctified Cathedral of the Sightless Eye.

Bone Ash fought with vigour and fervour from beyond the grave, but her powers came to nothing as she was slaughtered by the Rogues and their allies as they retook the Monastery.

-----------------------------------------------------

Bonebreaker

Precisely who Bonebreaker used to be is unknown, but she was raised from the ancient corpse of a dead Rogue warrior by Blood Raven's vile magics. Bonebreaker led the undead warriors below the graveyard in the Crypt of the Sightless Eye against any who invaded her territory. However, in her brittle condition, she was no match for the heroes, despite her magical enchantments per Blood Raven's spells, when they raided the graveyard to destroy the corrupted Rogue.
Bonehead Kneeaxe

This once celebrated Horadrim died long ago, and his true name is forgotten. When Diablo began to realize his full power from within the confines of Albrecht, he began to work the vile, hellish necromancy of Mephisto and brought him back to unlife. If he ever was a sorcerer, his magic was forgotten, and he attacked blindly until he was slain.
Boneripper

A mighty Horadrim initiate who was among Jered Cain's first pilgrims who came from the far East in search of Diablo. He was killed in battle and buried beneath the monastery, where he would be raised to unlife centuries later. Boneripper was destroyed by adventurers from the surface.

-----------------------------------------------------

Bongo

Bongo is one of the smarter, but still cowardly, of the Devilkin. Having migrated from Westmarch at the call by Diablo, he left a trail of destruction in his wake. When he arrived in Tristram, he terrorized the villagers by stealing or maiming small children, one of which was Wirt.

He was among the first demonic casualties who died fighting the champions of Tristram.

-----------------------------------------------------

Breakspine

One of the younger, but still more powerful, of the Mud Runners, Breakspine made a name for himself by impaling his hapless victims upon his horn. He continued this tradition after arriving in Tristram, but was killed when he met his match.

-----------------------------------------------------

Bremm Sparkfist

When the power of Mephisto's Soulstone touched the minds of the High Council of the Zakarum, they destroyed the Que-Hegan, Khalim, and promoted his deceptive underling, Senkekur, to his station. Shattering the sacred Soulstone into seven shards, each of the six Archbishops pierced their palms with the stones, and were transformed into scheming demons who thrived on discord and hatred.

Bremm, formerly the High Priest in command of the hierophant school of priesthood, was brought into Mephisto's fell durance to serve as his honour guard. Charged with the powers of the storms and enchanted with auras to enhance the fighting abilities of his unholy minions. Bremm, leading a detachment of vampiric Blood Lords, faced the adventurers from the West head-on when they threatened the abode of his Dark Lord. Even with all his gifts from the Lord of Hatred, he fell in battle.

-----------------------------------------------------

Brokenhead Bangshield

Brokenhead once led a troop of soldiers of fortune into the ruins of the monastery, looking for treasure with Leoric dead and the army missing. However, he and his force was slaughtered. They were brought back, still led by Brokenhead, but were routed once again by the forces of Light.

-----------------------------------------------------

Brokenstorm

Brokenstorm is a young but ruthless Storm Demon who was born on the mortal realm of Sanctuary, after the Dark Exile.

Brokenstorm led a bloodthirsty pack of Red Storm demons beneath the caves in Tristram, until he was killed by a band of adventurers.

-----------------------------------------------------

The Butcher

The Butcher was once a follower of Inarius the angel, but when Inarius was captured, the follower became the sadistic, cruel creature known as the Butcher, and was completely under the control of Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred.

The Butcher was summoned to Tristram, and he was waiting when Lazarus led the mob down to his vile abattoir. The Butcher slaughtered all before him, using his huge cleaver to cut down any foolish enough to stand before him, and decorated his chamber of horror with their viscera and splayed corpses.

Finally, a group of heroes, near the beginning of what was to be a long quest, destroyed the demon and took his Cleaver.

Canace

Wirt's poor mother was distraught when he was taken by the Fallen Ones, but his return almost made it worse.

Canace watched in hopeless sorrow as Wirt's spirits degraded, until finally, she simple stopped functioning, and became a recluse shortly before she died of a broken heart.

-----------------------------------------------------

Chaoshowler

Once Baal's loyal pet, Chaoshowler was sent to the monastery to guard Diablo. He was killed during the battle.

-----------------------------------------------------

Charsi
Rogue Blacksmith

Charsi was the young, naive, but spirited blacksmith of the Rogues. Both her parents were Barbarians of the northlands who were killed in battle, and the Sisterhood of the Sightless Eye took the orphan in. But still, the Barbarian blood in her veins has given her an innate wanderlust that makes her sometimes wish to join the adventurers in the wild.

Charsi was the mistress of the Horadric Malus, an enchanted hammer forged centuries ago and entrusted to the Order to safeguard their pledge to guard the Eastern Gate. However, Charsi was forced to leave it behind as she fled the Monastery.

Both Kashya and Akara would not allow Charsi to return to the Monastery to search for it, so when a band of adventurers arrived and began to push the forces of Andariel back towards the Monastery, Charsi saw her chance, and asked the warriors to find her Malus. They did, and she used it to magically imbue their equipment so that they might better battle Andariel.

When the warriors succeeded, Charsi thanked them gratefully, and, resisting the urge to join their quest, returned to her smithy in the barracks to help rebuild their Order.

-----------------------------------------------------

El Chupacabras

El Chupacabras was once thought to be a legend around the southern lands. This fabled creature was said to creep out at night and suck the fluids from the livestock, leaving heavily diseased corpses behind him. But he is legend no more. Leaving a trail of sickness and plague behind him as he journeyed north to Tristram, El Chupacabras led the Plague Eaters into battle until he was killed.

-----------------------------------------------------

Coldcrow

Formerly a Sister of the Sightless Eye, the corrupted Rogue, now known as Coldcrow, was among the most recent victims of Andariel's corruption before the Rogues and their allies went on the offensive towards the Monastery.

Coldcrow had been known in her righteous life as being able to channel the energies of the Sightless Eye, along with many other Rogues, into cold arrows to enhance their battle capabilities. Andariel's corruption increased these powers, making Coldcrow a chilling opponent to face.

Nevertheless, Coldcrow was killed in the caves of the cold plains during the Monastery's recapture.

-----------------------------------------------------

Coldworm
Sand Maggot Queen

Sand Maggot soldiers have minor reproductive abilities, but the main population of their vile race emerge from the belly of Coldworm the Burrower, the Sand Maggot Queen. Equipped with elemental magics to protect herself, Coldworm kept herself deep within the massive, subterranean labyrinth beneath the desert sands.

Her minions often paid her homage by bringing her valued artifacts they found, and eventually, the Staff of Kings came into her possession. Since it was needed to assemble the Horadric Staff and breach the tomb of Tal Rasha, she became the target, and eventual victim, of Cain's party.

-----------------------------------------------------

Corpsefire

Corpsefire was a zombie who seemed to be leading the Undead creatures in the Den of Evil after Andariel's corruptions of the blood moors. Corpsefire's origins in life are unknown, but he may have been a member of Warriv's caravan who was not lucky enough to escape the wrath of Andariel's vile minions.

Upon Akara's bidding, a group of adventurers raided the Den of Evil, where hordes of Fallen were amassing to attack the Rogue camp. Corpsefire and his followers were wiped out in the ensuing battle.

-----------------------------------------------------

The Countess

Years ago, Countess Bathory* was found guilty of the murder of a hundred young virgins, using their blood to bathe in and hoping that it would physically rejuvenate her, making her forever young. Upon discovering this heinous crime, the Rogues laid siege to her tower in the marshes and destroyed it, burying the Countess alive.

In her life, the Countess had amassed a great deal of wealth, and upon her death, that which had managed to be salvaged was split up amongst the clergy of the Sightless Eye to be used as the Great Eye saw fit. However, with Andariel's corruption, new evils began to spread from the tower's ruins.

A group of adventurers, taking a detour from their main goal to claim some fortune from the tower's ruins, found that the Countess was indeed alive, malformed by Andariel's corruption into a vile demon. But her lust for youth and blood continued, and she struck with an ensorcelled fury. However, she was no match for the heroes combined will and power. She was killed, and her fortune was turned over to those who had stopped her murderous rampage from starting again.
Creeping Feature

There are many tombs out beyond the dunes of Aranoch; remnants of the ancient civilization that once dwelt there. In an effort to honour people of status and rank, priests embalmed their corpses with preserving alchemical fluids. But even they are not immune to Mephisto's corruption over dead flesh.

Whoever Creeping Feature once was is a lost memory, but it is assumed that he was someone of status. Now, the risen mummy, with a horde of followers at his back, attacks any foolish enough to enter his Stony Tomb.

Dark Elder

Believed to be one of the oldest remaining corpses of the ancient civilization which had a metropolis built upon what is now the Lost City, the undead creature known only as Dark Elder had a host of zombies at his back. No longer the esteemed and wise elder he was in his life, the Dark Elder thrived only on the wishes of his masters, and had an all-consuming hatred for anything that did not do the same.
Deadeye

Deadeye was once one of the Horadrim who died and was buried beneath Tristram. With the rise of the Skeleton King, however, Deadeye was brought back in undead servitude to his new master, and guarded the tomb of Leoric. His protection was for naught, however, as he was killed by the adventurers who would later slay the Skeleton King.

-----------------------------------------------------

Deathshade Fleshmaul

Deathshade Fleshmaul, one of the most horrifyingly intelligent of the Stone Clan, devised a way to charge into battle, his horns leading, to stun and injure his victims. Attacking with speed and ferocity unknown to his kindred, he fought the adventurers in Tristram with great effectiveness until he was killed in battle.

-----------------------------------------------------

Deathspit

Deathspit is a poison spitter who ate from the table of Baal, but was slain at the battle of Tristram.

-----------------------------------------------------

Deckard Cain
The Elder

Deckard Cain - or Cain, as he was known to the people of Tristram - was a seasoned Elder respected the town over. He was a storyteller and a wise sage who was learned in ancient lore, having studied in the libraries of Lut Gholein.

However, Deckard Cain was secretly the last of the ancient order of Horadrim, descended from the great Jered Cain himself. But Deckard Cain was complacent in his vows, and believed the stories of the Soulstones and of Diablo to be legend, nothing more.

This all changed, of course, as more and more evidence appeared. Still, Cain remained silent, hoping against hope that it was not the case. But it was, and he knew it.

When Cain was presented with the Staff of Lazarus, he knew that something had to be done. He revealed himself to the adventurers who brought it to him, and told them of Diablo, and of Lazarus' treachery. Believing Prince Albrecht to be next on the sacrificial table of Lazarus, Cain hurried the adventurers to stop him. When they returned with the head of Lazarus and no sign of Albrecht, however, Cain's mood darkened, and he began to suspect the truth.

The Wanderer survived mortal combat with Diablo, and returned to Tristram a hero. They celebrated for many weeks, but after a time, the Wanderer left, and then the demons returned to Tristram. Cutting down all who stood before them, Cain managed to elude their foul clutches for a time, before they finally captured him.

Cain was trapped in a gibbet hoisted above the ground, left to starve and feed the birds. Luckily, with the help of the Rogues, a group of heroes managed to reach Tristram and free Cain. Afterward, Cain pledged his allegiance to the heroes, and helped them greatly, traveling with them through Aranoch and Lut Gholein, Kehjistan, and braving even Hell itself, all the while, lending his expertise to the matter.

Cain even followed the champions to Harrogath in the Barbarian Highlands, but there he knew little of the Barbarian pledge, and so could be of only some service. When they left him last, he was there.

-----------------------------------------------------

Lord deSeis

Whatever crimes Lord DeSeis committed in his life to earn him such a high place in the hierarchy of Hell when he died have been lost to history, but one thing was for certain, Lord DeSeis, an undead sorcerer of tremendous power, had a deep hatred and contempt for any who were not of Hell. His mission in death was not just to end life, but to blacken the soul and taint the human spirit. The black magics he wielded permeated even the strongest resolve. DeSeis had no love for the Evils, either, and lived through the Dark Exile in Hell, apathetic to its rulers. When the Prime Evils overthrew Belial and Azmodan, DeSeis joined with them to secure a safe position.

To test his loyalty, Diablo made him one of his personal guards when he sensed the mortal company who had defeated his brother entering Hell. Despite all his fevered attacks and magical assaults, DeSeis fell for the final time in the Chaos Sanctuary.

-----------------------------------------------------

Diablo
Lord of Terror

Diablo, the Youngest of the Three and Lord of Terror, ruled Hell with an iron fist when he was in command there. Arguably the most resilient of the three Prime Evils, he was cunning enough to keep his brothers close allies, which united them against the Lesser Evils at the time of the Dark Exile. But Diablo's greatest legacy was not made in Hell.

After the formation of the Horadrim, Mephisto was first captured and imprisoned within a tomb beneath the sands of Aranoch. Baal was soon captured too, and buried within Aranoch, but Mephisto was then relocated to Kehjistan, as the Horadrim would not trust their powers enough to store the brothers so near to each other. Diablo, however, eluded the Horadrim, and they followed him deep into the lands of the West, into the future kingdom of Khanduras. After a climactic battle, Jared Cain, one of the Horadrim, finally masterminded the capture of Diablo within his crimson Soulstone, and buried him beneath a monastery by the river Talsande. The Horadrim continued to live in the monastery, protecting their sacred charge. Generations after generation passed, until finally the Horadrim were all but extinct. Finally, Diablo's rise was near.

Leoric arrived in Khanduras with an Order of the Zakarum at his back and declared himself king, building a great Cathedral to the Light on the foundation of the now-ruined Horadric monastery. The people loved him and found him benevolent, aided by the Archbishop Lazarus, perhaps the most devout man in the kingdom. Ironically, it was the Archbishop who was Diablo's most dire tool.

Having worked, over the centuries, to learn the secrets of his ethereal prison, Diablo finally managed to corrupt the Soulstone, and used its energies to further corrupt any mortal mind that was not prepared to defend against the Dark Lord's mental invasion. Lazarus was his first victim, and in a feverish awakening, ventured down into the uncharted regions of the catacombs, and found Diablo's Soulstone. Then, he shattered it, and freed Diablo.

Still in ethereal form, Diablo sought out a physical form to house his spirit, and decided to choose the strongest of the members above him: Leoric.

Leoric sensed a dark presence within him, and began to fight it, but by and by, Diablo ravaged Leoric's mind and soul and the king's mood began to darken. Priests and warriors under the command of Leoric began to question Leoric's growing anxiety, but were headed off at every turn by the treacherous Lazarus, until finally, Lazarus was having too much trouble taking care of the inquisitors, and he convinced Leoric to declare war upon the kingdom of Westmarch, forcing the army to leave Khanduras, and leaving Leoric unwatched.

Diablo regaled his fury once more, and tore away all that was good and pure from the soul of Leoric. But for all his trouble, he knew that there would always be a last sliver of hope and goodness within the king, and that his victory could never be complete over Leoric. So, weighing the consequences, Diablo withdrew from Leoric, and turned to a newer host, an innocent host: Leoric's son, Prince Albrecht.

Lazarus masterminded the capturing of the boy, and brought him deep into the bowels of the labyrinth. There, Diablo took the boy, molding him physically into his own monstrous image and taking full possession of him, feeding off his terror and resistance, making his nightmares real, and psychically calling every demon in astral earshot to the monastery.

Meanwhile, Leoric, finding his son kidnapped, flew into a rage, and, believing the townspeople of Tristram to be responsible, began to randomly hang townsfolk until finally he was stopped when Lachdanan, champion of Khanduras, returned with his few surviving men, found Leoric, and slew him. But in the ensuing curse, Lachdanan's stalwart men were added to the ranks of Diablo's dark army.

Diablo's power grew daily. With no king or army to lead and protect them, the people of Tristram were forced to live out their lives terrified of the monsters that now roamed the countryside, and of the Dark Riders who ensured that no one left the town. Meanwhile, Diablo fed off the fears of the townsfolk, and culled his power to create an outpost of Hell within the labyrinth, populated by his most twisted minions.

As news of the troubles spread across Sanctuary, many adventurers arrived to brave the evils of the Cathedral. Though many were slain, they continued to advance down towards Diablo's lair, until finally, the last warrior confronted Diablo in mortal combat. Still weakened by the Soulstone and his young body, Diablo lost. But in one last hope for himself, he used the Soulstone's power to manipulate the Wanderer into jamming the Soulstone into his head, so that his own body might be a prison for Diablo.

Diablo stayed in Tristram under the guise of the Wanderer, struggling to gain control over the battered man, and when he finally did, he set off towards the East, and left Tristram to be ravaged by his most diabolical forces.

In order to free his brothers as he planned, Diablo needed to pass through the Rogue Pass, but as he did, he ensured that he would not be followed. He summoned Andariel, a Lesser Evil still loyal to him. Andariel would guard the Rogue Monastery, and ensure that no threat passed to challenge him. Shortly after leaving the monastery, there was a final struggle of the Wanderer's spirit, and Diablo's control lapsed, only to be fully realized in a horrific explosion of chaos and destruction one night in a tavern. The sole survivor of the massacre, an unstable character named Marius, was the newest tool for Diablo.

Marius served as companion to the Wanderer as he made his trek across Aranoch to arrive at Lut Gholein. He sought out the Canyon of the Magi and found his brother, Baal, still trapped within the writhing form of Tal Rasha. Diablo was about to free Baal when suddenly Tyrael interfered, and a battle ensued, but Baal persuaded Marius to remove the Soulstone, freeing him. The two brothers defeated Tyrael, trapped him in the Chamber, and fled across the Twin Seas to Kurast, where Mephisto had already corrupted the land and priesthood.

The Three, finally reunited, held dark rituals to reopen the Infernal Gate; a portal into Hell. Diablo, finally assuming his true form for the first time in millennia, went into Hell to act as harbinger.

Again, a group of heroes followed Diablo wherever he chose to run, even into the depths of Hell itself. Diablo surrounded himself with his greatest generals, but it was to no avail. In a climactic battle, Diablo was defeated, his Soulstone was recovered, and finally, it was destroyed at Hellforge, ending his reign of terror forever.

-----------------------------------------------------

Doomcloud

Doomcloud was the most powerful of all the Storm Demons, having proven himself in battle, both in Hell and Sanctuary, time and time again. Like many other demons, he was culled to the desecrated church in Tristram, and he journeyed down into the outpost of Hell that had been established. He was stations at the entrance to guard it against invaders. He did so for some time until he was defeated by a band of champions.

-----------------------------------------------------

Dreadjudge

Dreadjudge was a magistrate who was, in his life, corrupted by the temptation of power by the Dark Lords. He came to Tristram on the whim of Diablo, and pledged his services to the Lord of Terror, only to be killed during the battle.

-----------------------------------------------------

Drognan
The Sorcerer

The mysterious Vizjerei sorcerer, Drognan, came to Lut Gholein some time ago, and is considered a trusted member of the city community. His connections to both the social and sorcerological channels in Lut Gholein made him a treasured vizier of Lord Jerhyn. Drognan's mild manner, but powerful presence gave him respect and a passive fear amongst the townspeople.

Drognan was delighted to find Sorceresses amongst the band of champions who came from the West with the defeat of Andariel on their reputation. Drognan had a begrudging respect for the Zann Esu, as a result of his conservative training, but knew that if they assisted in defeating the Demon Queen, they earned the right to wield the forces of magic. Drognan opened his inventory of magical supplies to the adventurers.

Right away, Drognan knew that Diablo would seek out the tomb of Baal, his brother, and free him. He immediately went about trying to discern the location of the tomb, and all signs pointed to the Arcane Sanctuary. He knew that if he found that, then the Canyon of the Magi, and by extension, the Seven Tombs, would be revealed.

When the freak darkness settled upon Aranoch, Drognan advised the adventurers to seek out the claw vipers, and destroy their tainted sun altar.

As they did, Drognan, while sifting through the old records, found that Jerhyn's palace had been built upon the Vizjerei fortress, which had been the epicentre of their outpost there in ancient days. He suspected that the demonic rift which had let loose the demons into the harem had been a portal to the Arcane Sanctuary. On his counsel, the champions ventured into the Sanctuary, and, after defeating the Summoner, found the Canyon of the Magi, and the glyph of Tal Rasha's tomb.

When Duriel was defeated, the adventurers pursued Baal and Diablo across the sea, and Drognan wished them a sincere farewell.

-----------------------------------------------------

Duriel
Lord of Pain

Duriel, the greatly feared Lord of Pain, was one of the four Lesser Evils, and was a tool for the Prime Three.

During the Sin War, the Lesser Evils began to grumble that the Prime Evils had forgotten their ultimate mission: to ride the arms of Armageddon straight into the Crystal Arch and allow the reign of chaos to begin in Sanctuary. So, finally growing restless of the plans to sway the favour of man to hellish designs, the Lesser Evils followed a plan, masterminded by the Lords of Lies and Sin, Belial and Azmodan, respectively. The Lesser Four allied, with a great backing of persuaded demons behind them, and they made war upon the Prime Evils.

The civil war was glorious, bloody, and long, and in the end, over one third of Hell's considerable forces were slain by their own brethren. The Prime Evils were defeated, and were banished, wretched and bodiless, to the mortal realm. Belial and Azmodan had hoped that the angelic forces would be too occupied with the Prime Evils that the gates to Heaven would be left unguarded. This was so, and may have spelled the end of the Great Conflict, had the Lords of Lies and Sin not grown greedy.

The two Evils began to argue over who had dominion. The alliance of Darkness fell to pieces, and a great civil war erupted in Hell, and continued on for millennia, heedless of the rise and fall of powers in Sanctuary, be they that of the Evils, or that of the Horadrim.

Duriel and Andariel, however, sensed the rise of Diablo in Sanctuary after centuries of slumber beneath Tristram. Seeking to finally free themselves from a pointless civil war, that did not serve their unholy mission of chaos, they offered their assistance to the Prime Evils. They overthrew Belial and Azmodan, and put the alleigance of Hell back towards the Three.

However, their jobs were not done yet. While Andariel was given the task of ensuring that no one followed through the Rogue Pass, Duriel was not so fortunate. Duriel was summoned by Diablo and Baal to guard Tyrael's spirit, and to make sure that anyone who was looking for Baal never made it past him.

Duriel, made bitter by her slanderous task, destroyed anyone who ventured too near the captured angel, but was finally defeated by the same group of champions who had murdered his sister in Khanduras.

-----------------------------------------------------

Elzix
The Innkeeper

At one time, Elzix was in a band of desert bandits, and no one was safe from his pilfering hands. His rough lifestyle would cost him an eye and a foot. During this time, he once ran into Greiz, the leader of a mercenary band who had been hired against him.

When Elzix came to Lut Gholein, he settled down and established the Desert Rain, an inn and shop on the north end of the city. Since then, he kept mostly out of trouble, but his reputation as a shifty and sly thief and bandit earned him little respect from many of the citizens. However, he developed a friendship with Atma, who owned a pub. He would send his patrons to hers for a drink, while she would send her patrons to his for sleeping quarters.

As the troubles began, Elzix found himself without the company of the many brothels who had wandered the streets, and was horrified to learn that they had been slaughtered in the harem below Jerhyn's palace.

The Desert Rain was used by the many adventurers who followed Diablo from the West. He gave them his practical experience and helped them in many ventures. Elzix was also delighted to see Necromancers, whom he sometimes hoped could regenerate his lost limbs. When they dealt with Duriel and began to journey across the sea, he gave them an encouraging farewell.

-----------------------------------------------------

Endugu

The Witch Doctor Endugu, presumed by many to be the religious leader of mostfetish tribed in Kehjistan, was a gifted sorcerer who dazzled his clergy and congregation with acts of extreme power and malevolent agony. Mounted upon an honoured, lesser fetish, he made an imposing presence, even to humans.

To ensure that the fetish, who overpopulated the dense jungles of Kehjistan, would not interfere with their plans, the Black Council promised him power and the favour of Hell if he agreed to keep out of their way. The Witch Doctor, instinctually greedy for power, agreed. To prove trust on both parts, the Black Council entrusted Endugu with the brain of Khalim. He took it and hid himself away beneath the Flayer Dungeon. Drawn by its power, however, the heroes came to reclaim the brain. After a gruesome battle, Endugu and his followers were defeated.

-----------------------------------------------------

Fangskin

Fangskin is a name reserved for the most powerful and respected of the demonic Vipers, and can perhaps be considered something of a religious figure. While leading his race against the Lesser Evils during the Dark Exile, he earned a place within the trusted generals of Diablo, and would serve him again in the ruined monastery centuries later.

Fangskin was killed beneath Tristram by a group of worthy warriors. However, Fangskin reappeared in the Claw Viper Temple during the eclipse which would occur in Aranoch some time later. Fangskin may have been reincarnated into the form of a Claw Viper, or this Fangskin may have been merely using his name.

Either way, Fangskin (the Second) was serving as the high priest of the Claw Vipers, and was guarding the tainted Sun Altar in the temple. He was killed and the altar was destroyed.

-----------------------------------------------------

Fanspeir

Fangspeir was a ferocious Viper Demon who served the Lord of Terror unquestioningly both in Hell and in Sanctuary. Fangspeir and his appropriately named race of Cave Vipers dwelt in the caves and waited for unsuspecting adventurers to cross his path below Tristram. When one unexpectedly vigorous group did, however, he met his end.

-----------------------------------------------------

Fara
Paladin Blacksmith

Fara was trained as a Paladin of the Zakarum in the far jungles of the East. During her time as a Paladin, she once protected Warriv from a band of maurading raiders, but when she saw him again in Lut Gholein, she decided not to remind him, saying that the rewards for goodness won't come in this life.

Fara was a Paladin within the Hand of Zakarum, but rebelled with many of her brethren when they felt that their services were not aiding the Light, which, as it would later turn out, was true, for the Church had been corrupted by Mephisto himself.

Fara settled down in Lut Gholein, forgetting her past, and using the skills she had learned to build armour and weapons, as well as heal the flesh wounds of those who needed aid. When the troubles began to arise in the desert, Jerhyn (whom Fara had little respect for to begin with) hired Greiz, the captain of a band of mercenaries, to maintain order within the town, as the Palace guards had been recalled to the Palace itself. Fara reluctantly supplied them with weapons. She saw no honour in a man who was driven by the coin.

Soon after this, adventurers arrived from their victories in the West, hoping to clear the land of the shadow in Lut Gholein, as well.

Fara was happy to see them, as, opposed to Greiz, they were noble out of the goodness of their hearts, rather than the depth of their pockets. There were also some kindred Paladins who had left the Church, but still practiced their ways among the populace.

When the freak darkness fell upon the land, Fara researched alongside Drognan to try and find an answer. They concluded that it was the work of Claw Vipers in the desert. After informing the band of champions, the Claw Vipers were destroyed, their temple ransacked, and the Viper Amulet placed atop the Staff of Kings.

When Duriel was defeated, Baal and Diablo escaped across the sea to Kurast. Fara bid them good luck and farewell.

-----------------------------------------------------

Farnham
The Drunk

Farnham was once an average farmer in Tristram, and was simply one of the crowd. When Lazarus, after a long time being missing, returned to Tristram, Farnham was among the townsfolk who were riled up into a mob, and he followed the Archbishop into the Cathedral, only to see his friends eviscerated by the appropriately named Butcher.

Griswold the blacksmith ventured into the labyrinth to find survivors of the tragedy, and found Farnham and the boy Wirt. Farnham, like Wirt, was never the same. He could be found eternally at the Tavern of the Rising Sun, drowning his traumatic memories in a mug of ale, which never seemed to be empty. Over time, Farnham was reduced to little more than a drunken idiot, pitied by the rest of the town.

Farnham was most likely killed when the demons returned to Tristram, but may have survived and escaped.

-----------------------------------------------------

Firewound
The Grim

Firewound the Grim was the first demon to rise from the mix of brimstone and hellish blood, and he and his brethren battled the angelic forces until they were properly repelled.

Firewound, as a result of his undying loyalty to Mephisto, was banished to Sanctuary during the Dark Exile. He slipped into hiding, to resurface in the catacombs of Tristram. His skills, rusted from centuries of unuse, were no match for the adventurers.

-----------------------------------------------------

Fire Eye

The Raiders, which occupied Aranoch through powers of Hell was defeated when the Vizjerei made their incursion from Kehjistan in the wake of the Clan Wars, and they were banished. But there was a hole in the plot of the Vizjerei.

The ancient Vizjerei summoner, Horazon, built an Arcane Sanctuary from which he could conduct his magical experiments in peace, free from the prying eyes of his colleagues, and the vengeful claws of the demons he violated. However, after Horazon was long dead, a Summoner from the Vizjerei clan, who fought Diablo during the Darkening of Tristram, breached the Sanctuary, and in turn, allowed the Raiders to reenter the Mortal Realm.

Fire Eye was one of the most respected amongst the Raiders, and, knowing that his race would need reinforcements if they planned on taking back the deserts, he staked out and guarded the entrance to the Sanctuary, which was in the palace cellar.

Fire Eye, thirsty for vengeance against the mortals who banished them, fought ferociously against the party which entered the palace, but fell as they breached the Sanctuary.

-----------------------------------------------------

Flavie
Rogue Scout

One of the most trusted and effective long-ranged scouts of Kashya, Flavie had managed to avoid the corruption of Andariel, and also could hold her own in battle. She was sent out into the wilderness of the blood moors to find any surviving Sisters, but she would not dare venture into lands where corrupted Rogues were known to dwell.

When the adventurers began to make their way towards the Monastery, Flavie gave them warnings or encouragement, and aided them in battle. But she refused to follow, not bearing to see the sight of her Sisters marching in the services of the Dark Lords.

-----------------------------------------------------

The Flayer

This bloodthirsty Storm Demon got his name for burning his victims with bolts of electricity before devouring them. He fought with unholy viciousness in the caves below Tristram, but was killed along with his followers.

-----------------------------------------------------

Foulwing

One of the first demons created by the cabal of corrupt wizards, Foulwing was one of the most ingenious of these small, bothersome creatures. The Gloom drained the life of the wizards and led his progeny against them, slaughtering them and then running amok over the countryside, terrorizing all that lay before him. He returned to Khanduras at the call of Diablo, and haunted the catacombs until he was slain.

-----------------------------------------------------

Garda

The wife of Ogden and co-proprieter of the Tavern of the Rising Sun, Garda was well-liked amongst the people if Tristram, including Wirt, who remembered her fondly for her shepherd's pie. Garda wanted to go east and open a more prestigious tavern there, but never got the chance.

-----------------------------------------------------

Geglash
The Drunk

Geglash was once a warrior of some renown, but age, and a penchant for a pint, dulled his talents, and the inexplicable troubles in the desert, and even in Lut Gholein itself, drove him to drink more than his usual. However, to his credit, Geglash dealt with sabre cats, sand maggots, and the undead during his career. The only thing that scared him was water. "I don't even like to drink the stuff!"

After Radament's attacks began to take a psychological toll on the seasoned warrior, he spent more and more time at Atma's public house, where his belly became swollen from too much ale and not enough action. By the time the champions of the West came to Lut Gholein, Geglash was chronically tipsy.

Geglash always had an affinity for the Barbarian people, impressed by their feats of strength and skill, and was happy to find them among the adventurers coming from Khanduras. He offered little but good company and amusing stories to the party, but it was appreciated nonetheless.

-----------------------------------------------------

Geleb Flamefinger

Geleb was once a light to those who despaired. He crafted many spells blessed by the Light so that he and his clergy, the Cantors, were better able to serve their duties.

Geleb fell under the machinations of Mephisto, however, and aided his fellow Archbishops of the High Council in the murder of Khalim, and the freeing of Mephisto through the shattering of the Soulstone. Over time, the shard that pierced his hand corrupted him and drove him mad with hatred. He helped to craft the Compelling Orb, and carried the only weapon capable of shattering it, the flail of Khalim.

As the Zakarum fell into corruption, Geleb inherited the fires of Hell, and used his newfound powers to massacre any Kehjistani who got in his way, knowing that their blood would strengthen his master.

Geleb, Toorc, and Ismail faced off with the heroes who had defeated Duriel and Andariel before them. Despite all their hell borne powers, they were systematically destroyed.

-----------------------------------------------------

Gharbad
The Weak

Gharbad the Weak was an appropriately named goatman of the Flesh Clan. Gharbad's less than exemplary talents in the field, he was forced to make up for his weakness in other areas, lest he prove useless to his clan. So Gharbad delved into the arts of forging, and learned to make precious items.

Gharbad was summoned along with much of the Flesh Clan to Tristram, where he stayed in the dungeons, waiting for anyone foolish enough to cross them. When they did come, and slew all the Goatmen around them, Gharbad pled with them to leave him be, so that he might create for them a weapon they might use.

Gharbad did make a weapon, but he grew to love it so much that he was willing to risk his life to keep it, rather than hand it over to some mere mortal. However, the odds were against him, and he lost the battle and his life.

-----------------------------------------------------

Gheed
Caravan Trader

A self-serving and egotistical caravan trader, Gheed's life is run by money and greed. He is travelled, and has many a story to tell, and though his experiences have caused him to distrust Necromancers, he dealed with them out of pure necessity during his time in the Rogue camp.

Like Warriv, Gheed was moored in the camp after the Eastern Gate was closed by the corrupted Sisterhood. He peddled his goods as well as he could, but brushed almost everyone the wrong way. Kashya always thought of him as a pig and liar, but didn't kick him out only because Charsi adored him for his stories of adventure in the foreign lands.

Gheed sold and bought wares to and from the adventurers that came through the camp attempting to free the land from the taint of Andariel's corruption. But as for their noble quest, he offered little more than cynical ridicule.

When the Eastern Gate was reopened, Gheed was distressed, for now the Rogues were too busy moving back into the Monastery to worry about buying anything from him.

Gillian
The Barmaid

Gillian's mother died when she was rather young, and so she was raised by her grandmother. Gillian got a job at Ogden's Tavern of the Rising Sun. Gillian came to be loved by everyone in the town.

When the troubles began, most of the men of the village, fearing for her safety, encouraged her to leave, but Gillian adamantly stayed to look after her mother, who had fallen ill. Her mother received visions of heroes that would come to help the town.

Gillian was, in her childhood, a friend of Canace, and had come to despise Wirt for what he did to his mother. However, most of the other people in and out of town were held in high regard by Gillian, who respected everyone, including Archbishop Lazarus, who, she remembered fondly, spoke at her mother's funeral.

When the heroes that her grandmother prophesied would arrive finally did come, Gillian was overjoyed, and offered all the assistance she could. But, being naive to politics and the ways of war, Gillian was little more than good company, but for the weary adventurer, that was, at times, enough.

Gillian disappeared after the demons returned to Tristram. She is either dead, or one of the few survivors who managed to escape.

-----------------------------------------------------

Goldblight
of the Flame

Goldblight of the Flame was once a gargoyle on a Zakarum cathedral in Kurast. When Diablo brought him to life, he was grateful, and began to slaughter the townsfolk in the area. He was brought to Khanduras for his unequaled ferocity and vigour on the battlefield. For all his skill, though, he joined the ranks of murdered demons below Tristram.

-----------------------------------------------------

Sir Gorash

Sir Gorash was the personal bodyguard of Leoric, and when Leoric uttered his dark curse, it engulfed him as well. Diablo, knowing talent and power when he sees it, had Sir Gorash instated as his personal protector. Sir Gorash resided in Diablo's chamber, and led a band of Blood Knights against the offending heroes. They murdered many aggressors before they were finally destroyed by the Wanderer and his allies, who would eventually destroy Diablo himself.

-----------------------------------------------------

Gorefeast

Gorefeast was a powerful, but unintelligent Vortex Lord who ate his victims as they were still alive. He staked out his territory with an equally idiotic group of his kindred in the caves below Tristram, and proved to be rather easy to dispatch for the group of adventurers that encountered him.

-----------------------------------------------------

Gorestone

A bloodthirsty Goatman with a penchant for agony, Gorestone was a quick-footed creature with a bow that claimed the lives of many adventurers below Tristram before he was outsmarted and slaughtered.
Goretongue

A criminal who raped and murdered in life, Goretongue was hanged by the people of Tristram and sent below to the catacombs. He was risen into unholy servitude, only too willing to destroy life once again. But it was he who was to be destroyed.

-----------------------------------------------------

The Grand Vizier
of Chaos

The "Finger Magi" were a race of malevolent spellcasters created by dueling mage clans in the height of the Mage Wars that tore apart most of Kehjistan for many years. Their energy-draining tendrils could leave sorcerers defenseless, and their missile attacks seemed to seek out magical energy as if they were living things themselves. Different genuses mirrored by different clans, and they became some of the most effective weapons in the Wars. But their insidious intelligence was never part of the plan.

After the wars were finished, the Clans called off their dogs, and the Finger Magi were left to starve and die, with no magical energy to sustain them. They hunted down their own creators and drained their energies before they could mount any sort of defense.

The Grand Vizier of Chaos rose amongst the ranks of the Finger Magi. Having developed, perhaps through demonic machinations, a keen intellect and sadistic sentience, the Grand Vizier, then nameless, began to learn much of the way his creators lived, acted, and reacted. When the Finger Magi were lured to Hell, he found his way to Diablo's side, advising the Lord of Terror with tactics and strategies to defeat any mortals who entered the Sanctuary.

Pleased with the service of the Finger Mage, Diablo granted him great power and made him one of his personal bodyguards. The Grand Vizier gathered together the most powerful of his kind, and awaited the inevitable approach of the human champions who defeated Mephisto. Even with their spells running out of energy, they managed to destroy the fell beast.

-----------------------------------------------------

Graywar
The Slayer

Graywar the Slayer was a mighty warrior who crossed the line between good and evil, and pledged his soul to the darkness in return for longevity and strength unimaginable. In return, however, he was responsible to always be at the service of the Dark Lords. Over time, he grew to lust for spilled blood of innocents, and when Diablo called him to Tristram, he was only too eager to engage in unholy battle there. He took many lives before he grew overconfident and was killed in battle.

-----------------------------------------------------

Greiz
Mercenary Captain

Greiz's band of mercenaries have been all over Aranoch. He ran into Elzix's outlaws once or twice, and had his fair share of battles. His mercenaries acquired a reputation of ruthlessness and efficiency.

After Jerhyn's palace was invaded from the inside-out, his palace and city guards were more than occupied, and there was a rise of demonic turmoil out in the desert, and Jerhyn feared that Lut Gholein itself might fall under attack, and the solution was Greiz. Greiz handled the city's protection while Jerhyn's soldiers stayed at the palace. Though he didn't understand why they were so preoccupied (perhaps with the brothels that went to stay with Jerhyn?), but he didn't ask any questions.

When the adventurers came to Lut Gholein, Greiz hired some of his spearmen out to them, for the right price, of course. His mercenaries aided them in the desert, and some even chose to go with them to Kehjistan when the battle had been won. Greiz, impressed by the resourcefulness of the adventurers, gave them all job offers. When they declined, he still bid them a heartfelt farewell.

-----------------------------------------------------

Griswold
The Blacksmith

Griswold, following in the path of his father, was a blacksmith whose skills were renowned throughout Tristram. He once forged a gigantic, two-handed sword for king Leoric himself. But that was before they called him the Black King.

Griswold was a brave, but practical soul. Practical enough to know better than to venture into the desecrated cathedral. But when the screams of his fellow townsfolk echoed in the night, Griswold would not be idle, and he stole into the church to look for survivors. Under layers of carved blood and flesh, Griswold found Farnham and the boy Wirt, and caught a glimpse of the hideous Butcher before fleeing the dungeons.

Griswold remained in Tristram out of his pragmatics more than anything else. He knew that the Cloaked Riders were too big a threat to attempt to brave. In time, though, perhaps he estimated that the alternative was much worse.

Griswold helped the many adventurers who came to Tristram by supplying them with equipment in the ways of weapons and armour. They almost bled his stock dry, but it was a small price to pay for salvation from the sentence they were forced to live out. But in the end, it paid off, and the Wanderer returned from the labyrinth, battered and bloody, and Diablo was defeated.

However, shortly after the Wanderer departed, the demons returned to Tristram. Griswold was among the first to be slain, only to be raised once again into unholy servitude. The zombie stalked the ruins of Tristram for some time, guarding the captured Cain, until he was put to a well-deserved rest by the champions who would defeat Andariel.

-----------------------------------------------------

Gutshank
The Quick

Rather agile for a Fallen One, Gutshank the Quick commanded the respect and loyalty of countless Fallen, but that did little to stay their courage, for at the sight of bloodshed, they fled, leaving him defenseless for the kill.

Halbu
The Warrior Smith

Mystery and legend surround the Merchants of the Light. None can be certain that they are even human, but perhaps some divine creatures closer to angel than mortal.

Halbu was a Merchant of the Light. Clad in magical and beautiful armour of his own design seemed too heavy to carry, Halbu restlessly forged weapons and armour within the mystical confines of the Pandemonium Fortress. The adventurers journeying from Kurast were disappointed to discover that the smith, who looked like quite a force in battle, would not join them, as per his holy writ.

Instead, he offered them as much support as he could. At times, he was seen getting down on one knee and offering up a prayer to some forgotten god.

-----------------------------------------------------

Hephasto
The Armourer

Hephasto's true name has been lost to time, but the name Hephasto was given to the man who rose up through Inarius' clergy within the cathedral. He obeyed the beautiful angel's every order and worshipped him without question. He even helped in the attack against Mephisto's black fortress. It was here that he sealed his fate.

Mephisto himself, conjured by perhaps the most fervent unholy s?ance of all time, appeared at the cathedral of Inarius and let loose all his dark powers of malice and hatred. The clergy, Hephasto included, were captured, and brought to Hell. Most vexed with the zealot, Mephisto let his dark energies twist the form and thoughts of Hephasto, until he was grossly mutated into a giant demon, and forced to work as a slave amongst the demons, tirelessly forging armour for their dark armies. But when Hephasto began to tire of the constant abuse from his demonic overseers, he killed them with his smithing hammer.

Impressed at the tenacity of their newest minion, they gave him the Hellforge Hammer and made him supreme smith over the unholy forge within the depths of the River of Flame.

When the time came to destroy Mephisto's Soulstone, the only way to do it and keep Mephisto's essence from being freed was by destroying it at the Hellforge. The champions who defeated Mephisto stormed Hephasto's lair, killed him, took his hammer, and smote the sacred Stone, destroyed Mephisto forever.

-----------------------------------------------------

Horazon
The Summoner

Horazon was one of the greatest Vizjerei of all time. The mage, known as the Summoner, was greatly amused by summoning vile demons, and then breaking them under his will. The Vizjerei had worked for eons to learn the workings of Demons, and Horazon used this knowledge for his own perverted schemes.

Hell sought vengeance against this violation, but Horazon was a clever wizard, and secured for himself his own plain of existence; the Arcane Sanctuary. Within its walls, reality obeyed only the laws of Horazon, and no Demon could enter, unless he culled it there.

Despite the grumbling of the Vizjerei elders, Horazon was still a powerful mage, and still loyal to the cause of his clan. So he fought alongside his brethren, even facing his own brother, once Bartuc, now the Warlord of Blood. In a horrific battle, Horazon defeated Bartuc at Viz-jun.

As the Dark Exile began, though, he retreated into the impossible recesses of his Arcane Sanctuary, and then, used scrying spells to watch as real time passed. He saw the Evils and the Horadrim battle, and witnessed the capture of Baal.

Horazon also witnessed the dissention of the Horadrim, and all the while, he catalogued these happenings within his most prized journal. As time passed, Horazon disappeared into legend, and a great city - Lut Gholein - was built over the Vizjerei stronghold that had once held the entrance to his Sanctuary.

When Diablo rose again and came to Aranoch, the champions who had defeated Andariel needed to find the entrance to Tal Rasha's tomb, and so needed to discover the Arcane Sanctuary if they wished to uncover that. They did, but found it under the control of a sorcerer who called himself the Summoner, and had fought the demons below Tristram. Opinions are still differing as to whether or not he was possessed by the spirit of Horazon, or if he was just an imposter. But either way, the essence of Horazon has, for the time being, been put to rest.

-----------------------------------------------------

Hratli
The Mage-Smith

Hratli, a mage who specialized in the crafting of enchanted weapons, made himself useful in the aftermath of the Kurast massacre, and, stoking the fires of his crude, but effective forge, he built weapons of great power to aid the champions in their valiant struggle.

Hratli came from unknown origins, and, if he did belong to any mage clan, he never made a mention of it to anyone. When the Zakarum began to systematically slaughter the inhabitants of Kurast, Hratli went with the too-few survivors and fled through the jungle to the docks, on the brim of Kehjistan. Over time, the fetid corruption slunk its way towards the docks.

Hratli managed to craft a magical protection ward around the docks, keeping the demons and the corruption at bay, but he knew it would not last without assistance.

Seemingly in answer to his prayers, Meshif arrived from Lut Gholein with the band of champions who had the bodies of both Duriel and Andariel in their wake. Hratli met them at the docks, pleased to see bold sorceresses of the Zann Esu among them, and told them of the plight of the people of Kurast.

The champions began to trudge through the jungle, and Hratli began to notice that the ward was failing. He implored the champions to find the Gidbinn, a blade of the Old Religion, which Ormus could wield to create a stronger and more permanent shield around the docks. He was relieved when they did as he asked, and the ward was restored.

Hratli continued to work at his forge, until finally, Mephisto was defeated. He bid his new heroes good luck, and prepared to reenter his beloved city once again.

-----------------------------------------------------

Icehawk Riftwing

Icehawk Riftwing is the name given to the demonic Gloom who haunted the sewers of Kurast. Rare attacks and strange sightings made him something of an urban legend. But as the power of Hatred grew within the Guardian Tower, Riftwing's attacks increased, and he became more than mere legend.

Named for his ability to chill his victims with a touch, and to teleport away from danger, Riftwing was gently manipulated by the Compelling Orb and Mephisto's will to guard the entrance to the second sewer level, which housed the heart of Khalim. Riftwing put up a valiant effort when confronted by the champions, but was eventually destroyed.

-----------------------------------------------------

Inarius

Inarius was an angel in the Seraphim who prided himself upon his great beauty. He boasted of it to his enemies and allies alike until finally he became so diluted that he believed himself better than his fellows. He left the High Heavens in order to establish a following dedicated to serving him.

Still wanting to prove his power and dominance, Inarius laid siege to a dark temple dedicated to Mephisto. However, the Lord of Hatred would have vengeance for this travesty, and he laid waste to the mirrored cathedral of Inarius. Inarius and his followers were captured.

Using unholy spells and vile surgery, Inarius was altered to resemble an ugly, putrid, bloated demon with misshapen features and greasy flab. His followers were mostly given the same transformation, and they were thereafter used as minions of the Evils, and came to be known as Overlords.

Inarius, however, is said to be still alive, his eyelids torn from his face, locked inside a mirrored chamber in the deepest regions of Hell, to look at his malformed self for the rest of eternity.

-----------------------------------------------------

Infector of Souls

Undisputed as the most powerful of the balrog, the true name of this demon has been lost beneath his fearsome title. The Infector of Souls stealing the energies of his own brethren who fell before him, became stronger and more powerful than any other balrog could dream.

With speed that defied his massive frame, and a sword that inflicted the sting of the elements with each strike, Diablo promoted him to the position of his personal bodyguard after his return to Hell, to fill the position which Sir Gorash had in Tristram.

Like his predecessor, however, the Infector of Souls was destroyed at the hands of a group of champions.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ismail Vilehand

Ismail was formerly one of the six Archbishops within the High Council of Zakarum. Known for his healing touch and benevolent nature, Ismail was friend to all in Kurast. Then, Hatred overtook him.

With the murder of Khalim, Senkekur rose to the forefront. The Soulstone of Mephisto was shattered into seven shards, and one pierced the palm of Ismail. His form became distorted and deformed, and his hand that once healed the sick and bereaved now delivered a curse that increased their agony. Transformed into a being of pure hatred and dark power, Ismail was among the three Archbishops who were stationed above ground within the courtyard of the Guardian Tower, where they squared off against the champions from the West in mortal combat.

After an arduous battle that took the life of many righteous warriors, Ismail was destroyed.

-----------------------------------------------------

Izual
The Fallen Angel

Lieutenant to the Archangel Tyrael and bearer of the runeblade Azurewrath, Izual was one of the greatest of the heavenly heroes, trusted with their greatest secrets. Izual was a ruthless warrior on the battlefield with his demonic enemies, and he reveled in their holy slaughter.

However, Izual's bloodlust caused him to disobey the orders of heaven, and attacked the Hellforge as the creation of the demonblade Shadowfang was coming to fruition. Izual's quest led him straight into the arms of oblivion. The forces of Hell overcame the angel, and he was forever lost by the Light.

Izual was taken before Mephisto and his brothers, who tortured and manipulated Izual into revealing the creation of the Soulstones, artifacts of great power that could carry their energies should they ever be bodiless. He also told them that they could be corrupted, and upon further prying, he told them how to do so.

Once they were finished with him, the Three discarded Izual onto the plains of Hell, and very soon, he was overwhelmed by the Hellish powers, and slowly, his body was transformed into a demonic husk, housing a sorrowful soul of an angel within.

It wouldn't be for thousands of years that Izual was finally freed by adventurers on a quest to destroy Diablo. However, in his dying breaths, he told them of Diablo's ultimate plan, to unleash Hell on Sanctuary and turn the tides of the Sin War towards Hell, throwing the Great Conflict finally into Armageddon. Then Izual faded from reality to finally rest.

-----------------------------------------------------

Jamella
The Warrior Scribe

Mystery and legend surround the Merchants of the Light. None can be certain that they are even human, but perhaps some divine creatures closer to angel than mortal.

Jamella was one of the Merchants of the Light, whose knowledge of the mystical energies in this world made the mightiest of the Vizjerei look amateurish. But, per her holy law, Jamella was unable to directly do battle with the forces of evil. All she could do was remain within the Pandemonium Fortress, helping the heroes by selling them what magical items she could conjure.

Jamella was always seen with a mysterious tome in her arms. Now and then, she would scribe strange runes of a forgotten language in the very air with her fingertips. The arcane symbols would fade in moments, and none discerned the secrets they contained.

-----------------------------------------------------

Jered Cain
Initiate of the Horadrim

Jered Cain was one of the greater known initiates of the Horadrim. He was well known for thoroughly documenting the inner workings of the mysterious Soulstones bequeathed them by the Archangel Tyrael. He led the covenant that hunted Diablo into the Western kingdoms, where they captured him and buried him in a cave near the river Talsande. Over the cave, a monastery was constructed, where Jered Cain and his followers lived.

Jered Cain and his follower's descendants eventually dwindled into obscurity, until all that remained was Jered Cain's descendant, Deckard Cain - the last of the Horadrim.

-----------------------------------------------------

Jerhyn
Sultan of Lut Gholein

The young and handsome sultan of Lut Gholein, Jerhyn took the place of his father only recently. Affable and well-liked, particularly by the women in the city, Jerhyn had earned the respect and trust of many of the townsfolk. Not to mention the fact that his family had been the sultans of the Jewel City for many, many generations.

Then, the Wanderer came to Aranoch, and the troubles began. Radamant began to butcher the townsfolk, and demons attacked from the desert.

The brothels of Lut Gholein were a very popular attraction, and Jerhyn was not above a little self-indulgence now and then, and the brothel girls frequently visited him in the palace harem. When the troubles began, Jerhyn invited the terrified brothel girls to stay with him in his palace, ironically, for their own safety.

One night, Jerhyn awoke to the sounds of screams from the harem. Demons had come forth from a magical portal and massacred the brothel girls. The palace and city guards were all called to the palace to push them back, and they managed to contain them, but many were lost.

Not wanting to panic his people any further, Jerhyn kept the events of that night secret from the populace, but was forced to hire Greiz, the leader of a band of mercenaries, to repel the attacks on Lut Gholein while the Lut Gholein soldiers were occupied at the palace. He also ordered that no ships were to leave port. This was because he feared that the demons they were after would flee the city, but also because he feared that people may have had to leave the city quickly if things turned for the worse. Meshif was not happy, but obedient.

When the adventurers who had defeated Andariel arrived from Khanduras, Jerhyn had new hope, but did not fully trust them yet. He granted them stay in his port-city, and was hospitable, but would not allow them into the palace.

After Radament's defeat, Jerhyn told the adventurers of the Seven Tombs, but still was not confident enough in their abilities to tell them of the troubles in the palace, until they fixed the freak eclipse that had plagued the land.

As it turned out, Jerhyn's palace was built upon the foundation of an old Vizjerei fortress, and therein, the entrance to Horazon's Arcane Sanctuary. The adventurers fought their way into the Sanctuary, and by following the breadcrumbs Horazon left for them, they found Tal Rasha's tomb, destroyed Duriel, but Baal and Diablo were not to be found.

Nevertheless, Jerhyn was overjoyed that they had saved his city, and gave them provisions, and permission to leave the harbour with Meshif.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ancient Kaa
The Soulless

One of Tal Rasha's comrades, upon the death of Kaa, he was mummified according to the ancient rites of the Horadrim, and placed within the Seven Tombs to safeguard the mage's corpse, and the dark power he contained. But Kaa himself was not beyond the reach of evil's all-seeking tendrils.

Kaa did rise again to defend the tomb, not from demons and the Prime Evils, but rather, those who sought to undo their work. He became Ancient Kaa the Soulless, a malevolent entity whose only goal was the destruction of every living thing to enter his abode.

Ancient Kaa was confronted by the adventurers from Khanduras, and thought he put up an unholy fight, he and his fellow Horadric mummies were destroyed.

-----------------------------------------------------

Kaelan
Palace Guard

One of two soldiers under Jerhyn's rule who were not occupied within the palace, Kaelan was Jerhyn's most valued warrior. When the city guards went into the palace to deal with the demonic infestation, Kaelan was stationed outside the palace to keep any intruders out. He had to turn away the champions from the Rogue Monastery on more than one occasion.

Finally, Jerhyn took the party of adventurers into his confidence, and asked them to clear out the cellars below the palace, and Kaelan allowed them entrance into the palace.

-----------------------------------------------------

Kashya
Rogue Captain

The fearless captain of the Rogues, Kashya, a friend of Blood Raven, the Rogue who had led a cadre beneath Tristram, led the surviving Rogues, fortifying them within the Rogue camp in the foothills west of the Monastery. The experienced made Kashya hard and untrusting. She became a very bitter woman.

As the "outlanders," who would eventually destroy Andariel, arrived, Kashya did not trust them, except for the Amazons among them, to whom she felt a natural affinity with as a result of their similar fighting styles.

Kashya soon learned that her friend and comrade, Blood Raven, had risen from her death and led an undead army from the Monastery graveyard. Upon killing Blood Raven, Kashya found she began to trust the adventurers, and allowed her scouts to accompany them.

Kashya was overjoyed when the adventurers pushed the evil out of the Monastery and killed Andariel, and she led her Rogues back into the Monastery, bidding a farewell to her newfound friends as they set out to confront Diablo.

Kashya then set about the task of rebuilding their broken Order.

-----------------------------------------------------

Lachdanan
Champion of Khanduras

Lachdanan was a faithful warrior of the Light and Leoric's most loyal steward. He fought for Leoric unquestioningly, until Leoric's curse fell, and Diablo began to possess the king. Lachdanan, sensing a darkening of moods within Leoric, began to question the king's strange actions. Lazarus, knowing that Lachdanan would soon discover the king's secret, accused Lachdanan of treason.

This action startled the king's followers more than anything, and they began to question the motives and actions of the King almost as passionately as Lachdanan.

Lazarus knew that his master's time in secret would not last long with all these prying eyes, and so he decided to get rid of them. Lazarus falsely convinced Leoric that the kingdom of Westmarch was planning to conquer and annex Khanduras. In his paranoid and maddened state, Leoric was only too eager to agree, and declared war on Westmarch.

Despite the much larger armies of Westmarch and the seemingly doomed outcome, Lachdanan was honour-bound to obey his lord, so he led the armies of Khanduras upon those of Westmarch. The campaign was a disaster, and many were slain. With only few survivors, a desparate Lachdanan fled Westmarch, and led the survivors he could band together back to Tristram. He found the town in shambles. Albrecht and Lazarus were both missing, and Leoric had begun hanging townsfolk at random. Despite all the vows he had taken to protect Leoric, he knew that something must be done about the Black King.

Lachdanan confronted Leoric, who believed him to be part of the non-existent conspiracy of the townsfolk. The few guards Leoric still commanded were ordered to attack them. Lachdanan hesitantly ordered his men to defend themselves, and battled the honour guard straight into the bowels of the monastery's catacombs. In the end, Lachdanan was forced to kill Leoric.

But on his dying breath, Leoric called upon the powers he had been fighting against for so long, and cursed Lachdanan and his followers to a hellish condemnation.

Lachdanan watched in horror as his comrades changed. They grew in stature, their armour hardened, and their blades grew long and jagged. But they grew resolute in their one purpose; to fight for Diablo. Though Lachdanan felt and saw himself change physically, he managed to struggle against the mental domination the plagued him, tempting him to cross that final threshold. Lachdanan tried to take his life, but to no avail. He did hear, however, of a golden elixir forged by the Horadrim which would kill a man in his condition.

A group of heroes, battling their way towards the epicenter of the troubles, came upon him. He pleaded with them to find the elixir, and they agreed. As he was beginning to lose hope, they returned with the elixir. Thanking them gratefully, Lachdanan drank the elixir, and went finally to a well-deserved rest.

-----------------------------------------------------

Lazarus
Archbishop of Khanduras

Archbishop Lazarus was one of the most faithful advocates of Zakarum - Religion of the Light. He was sent as an ambassador of the Zakarum church from Kurast to watch over the land of Khanduras. However, there were darker powers at play.

Lazarus had formerly been given the quest of safeguarding the Soulstone of Mephisto - Lord of Hatred. The Horadrim had given the church of Zakarum the task of protecting it centuries before. However, Mephisto corrupted the Soulstone and was able to, in turn, corrupt Lazarus as well, and Lazarus was only the first. Soon, the entire clergy was under the subtle control of Mephisto.

Lazarus was sent to Khanduras with the specific quest of freeing Diablo. It took some time, but after establishing a presence of Zakarum in the area, Lazarus performed his task, and freed the dread Lord of Terror.

Diablo attempted to take hold of King Leoric, and Lazarus ensured that no one got close enough to realize that something was amiss.

-----------------------------------------------------

Leoric
The Black King

King Leoric arrived in Khanduras waving the banner of Zakarum, and leading an Order of the Light full of many knights and priests, led by Lachdanan and the Archbishop Lazarus, respectively. He found the ruined monastery of the Horadrim, and built upon its foundation a great cathedral devoted to the Light. The people of Khanduras were at first displeased with this sudden sovereign, he served them justly, and they eventually grew to see him as the kind and mighty ruler that he was.

However, it wasn't long before Leoric sensed an evil growing within himself, corrupting his thoughts with vile whispers. He was possessed by the greatest Evil that the West had ever faced: Diablo - Lord of Terror.

Leoric kept his condition secret from his followers, hoping that his own strong will would be enough to exorcise the demon of his own accord. But he was mistaken. Diablo toiled away within the depths of Leoric's tortured mind and soul, growing in power and control, and always concealed by the working of Diablo's most faithful servant, Lazarus.

Leoric began to grow insane from Diablo's workings and his own battle against the Evil, and if anyone ever questioned him, he would have them executed. He became a tyrant, using his force to bully outlying lands into submission, and he was known as the Black King.

As the servants of the Zakarum grew more and more suspicious that something was awry with their king, Lazarus enacted a plan to ensure that they would no longer trouble Leoric. He convinced the king that the westward kingdom of Westmarch was planning to annex Khanduras. Leoric, already under heavy stress, immediately declared war, despite the vehement protests of his advisors.

With no one remaining to pry into the happenings within the Cathedral, Diablo tightened his stranglehold on the dismal remains of Leoric's soul, but the Lord of Terror eventually resigned himself, knowing that he would never assume complete control over Leoric, and relinquished his hold, looking for someone easier to corrupt. Leoric's young son: Prince Albrecht.

Though free from Diablo, Leoric was still left maddened, and when Albrecht disappeared, he believed that the townsfolk of Tristram had employed a conspiracy against him, and began to execute them, almost at random. Without the counsel of Lazarus, who had disappeared, Leoric believed he could trust no one, and became the greatest fear of all those in Tristram.

Lachdanan and the survivors of the disastrous campaign on Westmarch returned to Tristram in Khanduras, and Leoric believed them to be part of the conspiracy, and ordered them killed. It was with a heavy heart that Lachdanan struck down the man he had sworn to protect. But in his dying breath, Leoric brought down a damning curse upon his former followers, shattering the barriers he had erected to ward off the darkness. Thus did Leoric, the Black King of Khanduras, die.

But his story did not end there. Diablo began to rise to power within the heart of the labyrinth, and the remaining townsfolk buried their once-beloved king in his crypt. The energies of Diablo, coupled grievous state in which Leoric died, brought the King from the grave. His reign now ruled the army of the Undead, comprised of his dead knights, as well as the remains of the Horadric monks who had died centuries ago.

The Champions of Tristram, however, commenced a campaign against this Skeleton King, finally destroying him and his army, and vowed to find his lost son.

-----------------------------------------------------

Lionskull
The Bent

Originally a survivor of the war on Westmarch, Lionskull the Bent was among the warriors who returned to Khanduras in shame behind Lachdanan. But also like Lachdanan, Lionskull was damned for all eternity by Leoric. However, unlike Lachdanan, Lionskull was quickly overcome by the forces of Darkness, and protected them with as much vigour as he ever had for the Light. He guarded the entrance to Hell, but was killed when a group of adventurers attacked him.

-----------------------------------------------------

Lysander
The Alchemist

Lysander was an untrusting old coot who lived in Lut Gholein for most of his long, long life working as an alchemist. Considered quite eccentric by most of the townspeople, Lysander had been blamed several times for "mysterious" explosions, which could perhaps account for his under-par hearing.

Lysander suspiciously greeted the newcomers to Lut Gholein, offering his services to them. They checked in now and then for a bit of information, but for the most part, Lysander kept to himself. He was horrified when he heard the horrible fate of the harem girls, and began to become more trusting of the strangers.

-----------------------------------------------------

Madeye
The Dead

One of the Burning Dead skeletons, Madeye the Dead was among the swelling ranks of the undead below the monastery, fighting with twin axes against the forces of Light. However, he could not hold his own, and was destroyed.

Maffer Dragonhand

Maffer was a deadly force on any battlefield. One of the mightiest paladins the Hand of Zakarum had to offer, his great exploits in the Inquisitions led him to a position of power in the High Council. He was one of the first to fall under the sway of the malevolent Soulstone.

Maffer was granted a boon from Mephisto to his already considerable strength when his hand was maimed by one of the seven shards of the violet Stone. Mephisto, seeing the undeniable and unquenchable spirit of the warrior within Maffer, made him his own personal bodyguard. With his new powers, Maffer was hoped to be all but unstoppable.

Despite a deadly battle, Maffer was eventually subdued by the adventurers from the West when they came for Mephisto.

-----------------------------------------------------

Mephisto
Lord of Hatred

Mephisto, the Eldest of the Three and the Lord of Hatred, is one of the most sadistic and vile creatures ever to exist either in Sanctuary or within the Burning Hells. Mephisto ruled Hell in the Prime Evils' triumvirate with an iron fist, masterminding the creation of a great many of Hell's most grotesque and abominable minions. Mephisto's dark minions embrace a sinister and overwhelming hatred of all things not borne of their Hellish plains.

Mephisto had several followings within the worlds of both Hell and Sanctuary sowed throughout the Sin War. One such following had a temple in the heart of the peninsula south of Kehjistan. It was unexpectedly attacked by the vain angel, Inarius, who thought his beauty could overcome any power that Mephisto retaliated with, but he was sorely mistaken.

Mephisto laid waste to Inarius' mirrored cathedral, and took the angel and his followers. Using dark magics of hellish design, he tore the wings from the angel, and distorted him into a flabby, bloated and hideous demon. He then ripped his eyelids from his face, and locked him within a mirrored chamber deep within the confines of Hell.

Izual, the great swordbearer of Azurewrath, launched an attack on Hell contrary to the orders of the High Heavens. He was defeated, and captured. Mephisto tortured the wretched angel into revealing the nature of the yet-to-be-completed Soulstones, and thus did Mephisto and his brothers formulate a plan . . .

It was some time into the Sin War, that the Great Conflict came to a standstill. Mephisto and his brothers realized that Man was the key to winning the Sin War and ending the Great Conflict once and for all, and so they changed their agenda of conquest, instead turning to the perversion of mortal souls. The Lesser Evils began to think, however, that this change of pace came out of a fear the Prime Evils possessed of battling the High Heavens. Azmodan and Belial, two of the Lesser Four, overthrew the Prime Evils in a bloody war that would go on for generations, but in the end, the vile traitors succeeded in their plots, and the Prime Evils were banished, formless and ethereal, into Sanctuary.

From "Enter Hell"With little to do for time uncounted by sow chaos within Sanctuary, Mephisto and his brothers did just that. Taking the bodies of mortals as hosts, they wreaked unholy havoc on the lands of men, until finally, the Archangel Tyrael had had enough. He forged the secret order of the Horadrim, who, armed with three mystic Soulstones, hunted down the Three. Mephisto was captured by the Horadrim, locked within a violet Soulstone, and buried beneath the burning sand of Aranoch. The artifact was exumed, however, and transported to Kehjistan, for the Horadrim wanted to keep the Three as far from each other as possible. The Three were defeated . . . and everything was going exactly according to plan.

Mephisto soon discerned the secrets of his prison, and corrupted the Soulstone from within. Using the Soulstone's powers, he found that he could subjugate the will of surrounding mortals, and after biding his time, he felt that his ascension was at hand.

Mephisto's soulstone had come under the protection of the Zakarum - religion of the Light, and had been placed deep below the Guardian Tower in Travincal, the temple city of Kurast. Mephisto used the twisted powers of the Soulstone to reach out into the minds of the surrounding priesthood, but one mind remained aloof - that of the Que-Hegan of Zakarum, Khalim. Khalim, however, was quickly taken care of by the corrupted. Senkekur took his place. Mephisto's guardian, the Archbishop Lazarus, was corrupted, and sent to Khanduras with the hopes of freeing Diablo. Once that had been taken care of, Mephisto took steps to free himself.

Mephisto then had the Black Council work vile spells which shattered the Soulstone, freeing the demonlord from his prison. The seven shards which remained were driven into the hands of the six remaining archbishops of the Black Council, and the largest into Senkekur, who served as the host for Mephisto.

Mephisto released a wave of darkness upon Kurast, using the advocates of the Zakarum to roam far and wide, cutting down those who opposed them in a perverted, bloody Zakarum Inquisition. However, in the midst of all the bloodshed, a rebellion rose up from the ranks of the Paladins, who saw this "cleansing of evil" as an act of evil itself. Mephisto did not want to simply trust the ignorance of his armies any longer, and so crafted the Compelling Orb, which he used to completely control his disciples in Kurast. Immediately, all the citizenry of Kurast began to be randomly slaughtered, and they were driven to the docks.

The rebellion within the Paladin ranks which resulted from the Inquisitions were a key role in the downfall of Mephisto. The Paladins, as well as many other warriors and sorcerers, aided by the last of the Horadrim, found Khalim's relics, reformed his Will, and destroyed the Compelling Orb. Only guarded by his most trusted advocates - the Black Council, Mephisto fell under the forces of Light.

-----------------------------------------------------

Meshif
The Sailor

Meshif was the captain of a merchant vessel that sailed all across the Twin Seas. From his homeland of Kurast to the desolate wastes of Aranoch, to the tropical jungles of the Amazon Isles and the metropolis of Kingsport in Westmarch, Meshif certainly got around. He was a longtime friend of Warriv, a traveller like himself, but on land rather than sea.

When Meshif made his usual stops in Lut Gholein, delivering supplies and wares from Kingsport, Jerhyn ordered that no ships were to leave the harbour. Though Meshif was anxious to travel back to Kurast, which he had not visited for many years, he was respectful of Jerhyn's authority.

Meshif waited out the troubles, talking to his fellows in the Jewel City, and he met Deckard Cain and his travelling companions. These included several Amazons. He was anxious to speak to them, as he hoped that they could tell him something of the state of Kurast, since they were known to travel extensively. But none of these Amazons had been to Kurast.

When they eventually unravelled the mysteries behind Baal and the Vizjerei's dark secret, they needed to pursue the Evils to Kehjistan. When Jerhyn asked Meshif to up anchor and set sail, he was only too happy to oblige, and would have likely taken Cain's party to Kurast out of gratitude even if Jerhyn hadn't requested it of him.

When Meshif arrived in Kurast, he was horrified. After bragging about the beauty of the jungle and the city, he found that the jungle had almost completely overrun the city, and now the dockside was the only haven for civilization, and that was only because of a magical shield erected by Hratli the mage-smith. Meshif implored the barbarian adventurers to help him save his homeland, as he knew that they had been trained to protect.

He kept his boat ready, knowing that if things went awry, the few survivors of Kurast would have to leave quickly.

When the adventurers defeated Mephisto, he thanked them profusely for restoring order to his home, and bid them luck in Hell.

Moonbender

A scheming, conniving creature, Moonbender was among the first of the Winged Fiends, and reveled in the slaughter of the corrupted cabal of wizards that created him. His services were commanded to Tristram, where he was killed during the battle.

-----------------------------------------------------

Natalya
The Assassin

The mysterious, deadly, and cynical Natalya was roaming around the Kurast docks when the champions from the West arrived. She told very little about her past and kept to herself most of the time. She only told them that she belonged to a secret Order of mage-hunters, and that she would be glad to join them in their quest, but couldn't afford to miss her orders, which she was scheduled to soon receive.

Cain believed her to belong to the Khral Harzhek, a secretive order that nearly predated the Horadrim.

Natalya grew to appreciate the tenacity of these champions, and often gave them advice on how to defeat the many enemies they would encounter.

When they finally defeated Mephisto, Natalya bid them farewell, and told them that she had received orders, and was departing for the Barbarian highlands, but she could not reveal why.

Natalya was, in truth, an Assassin of the Viz-Jaq'taar, who was likely in Kurast to kill Senkekur, for it was the goal of her order to hunt down and destroy any rogue magi who used their powers for the forces of evil. She, and many of her sisters, were sent to Harrogath to help destroy Baal. Many were killed in the battle upon Arreat, and it is uncertain if Natalya survived, or was taken by Tyrael to peace.

-----------------------------------------------------

Nightwing
The Cold

Once a statue adorning the T?r D?lra in Scosglen, Nightwing was brought to life by Diablo, but banished by the Druids before he could inflict any damage.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ogden
Tavern Keeper

Ogden and his wife, Garda, ran the Tavern of the Rising Sun, an inn and tavern which served as the much-needed sleeping quarters for many of the heroes who came to save Tristram. Ogden always had a dream of going to the east and opening a tavern there.

Ogden was always an anxious, nervous man, but affable enough. He knew many of the warriors returning from the campaign on Westmarch, and told them of the troubles that had happened since they left. Ogden supplied many of the adventurers with room and food during their stay in Tristram.

After the Wanderer routed Diablo, Ogden prepared a celebration, during which the Wanderer left, and shortly afterward, the demons returned to Tristram. In the ensuing chaos, Ogden was either killed, or fled
the doomed town.

-----------------------------------------------------

Oozedrool

Another of Inarius' rebellious flight of angels, Oozedrool was tortured to near death, and mutated by vile enchantments into the disgusting creature known as a Toad Demon. Oozedrool wandered swamps and in a mental morass until he was called to the cathedral in Tristram. There he swevred Diablo unquestioningly, until his death.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ormus
Skatsimi Priest

The mysterious but wise poet, Ormus, was believed to belong to the Taan mage clan, an ancient, long-forgotten clan who had followed the teachings of Skatsim, the old religion which had been dominant in Kehjistan until the Religion of the Light - the Zakarum - became prominent.

Ormus fled with his people to the docks of Kurast, the last bastion of hope for the despairing people of Kehjistan, for their beloved city had been overrun by the Zakarum and demons of Mephisto.

Ormus remained cryptic and aloof, even when the heroes from the West arrived. Among them were Paladins, and Ormus felt for them, whose brethren had fallen into darkness.

Hratli revealed to the heroes that Ormus was the only one who could revitalize the dock's protective ward when it began to crumble, with the use of a Skatsimi blade known as the Gidbinn. The champions returned the dagger to Ormus, and he used it to rejuvenate the ward. He repaid the heroes with a boon from the spirits of Skatsim, and a magical ring.

Ormus' trust grew slowly as the heroes pushed further and further towards the Travincal, and finally, he told them of their ultimate quest. He told them that the High Council of the Zakarum, once righteous magi of the Light, had become consumed with the power of Hatred they sought to bind beneath the Guardian Tower, but they were weak, and that they were controlling the Zakarum at his whim. At his bidding, the Black Council was destroyed as the heroes laid siege to the Blackened Temple in Travincal.

When the champions returned with Mephisto's death behind them, Ormus congratulated them heartily, and encouraged them to continue their chase.

-----------------------------------------------------

Pepin
The Healer

Pepin, the worrying healer of Tristram, never had a violent bone in his body. He knew little in the way of war, but knew its outcome well enough. When Lazarus returned, rallying the town up into a mob, he and Gillian tried to convince the Archbishop of his folly, but to no avail.

Pepin tried so very hard to treat their wounds, but even he had no hope in curing the vile venoms that coursed through their wounds. Very few of the survivors lived through the night.

Shortly after the mob was killed, adventurers began to arrive in Tristram to solve the problems, and Pepin appealed to them to find a solution to the water problem, and also to find cures to the infections the demons inflicted. Pepin also healed their wounds many times, and gave them all other assistance as well.

Pepin rejoiced when the Wanderer returned victorious. But when he left, the demons returned to Tristram. Pepin was either slain, or managed to escape, but that that is unlikely.

-----------------------------------------------------

Pitspawn Fouldog

A vile, deformed creature summoned by Andariel to assist in the occupation of the Monastery, Fouldog was an unintelligent brute who was attracted to the smell of dead flesh and carrion in the jails.

Imbued with the element of cold as a result to Andariel's disdain of fire, Fouldog's attacks on live targets were vicious and effective. Having been in such close proximity with the dread Demon Queen for centuries had also tainted his touch, cursing his enemies in combat.

Despite his enhancements by Andariel, he was killed in combat with the adventurers who were retaking the Monastery.

Radament
The Fallen

Radament the Fallen was an ancient Horadric mage. When he died, he was mummified and infused with enchantments designed to allow him to protect his tomb. Animal parts were surgically grafted to his body, and the process was believed to augment his powers in the afterlife. Radament However, when the Evils began to stir once more, those spells were corrupted and Radament became a malevolent entity.

Radament emerged from his tomb in the desert with a single purpose; to revive himself using the flesh of the living. And in the desolate wastes of Aranoch, there was only one source of it: Lut Gholein.

Radament journeyed to Lut Gholein and began to fashion a body for himself by killing, skinning, and dismembering the citizens, including the son and the husband of the owner of the local public house, Atma. Greiz and his men managed to battle Radament into the sewers, where he was cordoned off from the surface. Radament was adamant, though, and still managed to catch a few more corpses.

In the sewers, Radament gathered an army of undead to do his bidding, and they guarded him from any intrusion as he pieced together his new body. But his lair was raided by a group of stalwart adventurers at Atma's request, and Radament was killed, despite his best efforts.

-----------------------------------------------------

Rakanishu

Where Bishibosh led the Fallen Ones in religion and worship, Rakanishu led them on the battlefield. Leader of the Fallen tribes in the West, Andariel and Diablo recruited the Carver, and granted him more power than he ever imagined.

As a result of ancient Horadric spells ensorcelled into the Cairn Stones, their power could not be dispelled or destroyed by the demonic powers of the Evils or their minions. But, as Andariel hoped, they could ensure that that power was not used by the forces of Light. Rakanishu was used by Andariel to safeguard the Cairns, with the hopes that he and his followers would keep them unused.

Rakanishu and his minions were destroyed by a band of adventurers who were trying to use the power of the Cairn Stones to rescue Cain from Tristram.

When Andariel's foul corruption began to claim her sisters, Sarina hastily gathered her forces and fled east, in the hope of finding some cure for this ailment with the Religion of the Light in Kurast. But as they reached the Kehjistani shores, they found that fleeing Khanduras had not saved them.

In time, the greater proximity and overall power of Mephisto's Hatred dominated that of Andariel, who had meanwhile been killed, and she became Battlemaid Sarina, fiercely loyal to Mephisto and ruthlessly efficient in her craft.

Sarina was entrusted with Lam Esen's Tome, the Black Book. She took it and hid in the desecrated temples below Kurast. There, she waited, always on guard for any intruders. When they came, she ambushed them, but was no match for their skills. She was killed, and the Book was reclaimed.

When he finally discovered the secrets of passing from one dimension to the next, he gathered a following of like-minded, deformed followers of Inarius.

Sludge was driven by the calls of Diablo to Tristram, where he lived in the shadows of the Horadric catacombs. Despite his visual trickery, he was no match for the combined efforts of the adventurers from the surface.

-----------------------------------------------------

The Smith

One of Inarius' followers centuries ago, the Smith was the name given to what he eventually became. Having once created the shining armour of Inarius and his magnificent weapons, when the Smith was slowly transformed into an Overlord through Mephisto's evil magics, he was to retain his talents, and use them in his work for the Evils.

After Andariel's ascension in the Monastery, she found an item of great power; the Horadric Malus, and knew just the demon to whom it should be entrusted. Summoning the Smith, she gave him the Malus, which he used to forge armour and weapons for her vile army.

Stormtree

Once the benevolent and gentle protector of the jungle, Stormtree was honoured by Kehjistani farmers, as he was believed to ward off storms. His welcome presence in the jungle was a sign of hope to all who knew the legends of him.

But as Hatred began to seep through the land, even Stormtree and his brethren were not immune. Soon, they began to openly attack any who crossed their paths, completely unprovoked. What was worse was that Stormtree used his awesome powers against the townsfolk. Despite the glassy, despairing eyes that seemed to beg for death, Stormtree's ravages were a main factor that drove the citizens from Kurast.

With the people gone from the city, Stormtree and a cadre of his fellows were stationed at the entrance to the city to ward off any who would threaten the Blackened Temple and Mephisto.

When the heroes came through the jungles, they were forced to battle Stormtree to gain access to the city. They gave answer to his prayers, and destroyed him.

The Summoner

The true name of this Vizjerei mage is known by very few, and they do not feel at liberty to speak it. The Summoner fought, as did many of the Vizjerei, beneath Tristram. He had always idolized Horazon, the ancient summoner who bent demons to his will.

The Summoner, through some trick of fate, was one of the few survivors of the catastrophe beneath the damned town. Haunted by some strange haze, he went to Lut Gholein immediately after leaving Khanduras, obsessed with discovering the secrets of Horazon and his hideaway, the enigmatic Arcane Sanctuary. Perhaps he feared retribution from Diablo and his minions for his part in his defeat at Tristram.

In any event, Lord Jerhyn of the Jewel City granted him entrance to the palace, and when he came across the ancient tunnels, which had been sealed up, he became very agitated. He asked for some time to study them, and when he was done, he left very hastily.

Through some unknown magical process, the Summoner breached the Arcane Sanctuary, inadvertently (or perhaps not . . .) allowing demons entrance to both the Sanctuary, and the palace cellars below Lut Gholein.

The Summoner completely assume the identity of Horazon. Activating the magical defenses, and bending the will of some of the demons and spirits within the Sanctuary, the Summoner secluded himself in the innermost study, reading through the journal of Horazon.

He was saved several times during such troubles by Paladins, and he would always enjoy their zeal in years to come. Despite Warriv's not knowing it, the blacksmith, Fara, was among these Paladins.

Warriv, during a trade through the Rogue Pass, was moored in the Rogue camp due to Andariel's corruption of the monastery. He waited uneasily as a band of adventurers, along with the help of the Rogues, made their way through the monastery, destroyed Andariel, and reopened the Rogue Pass.

However, before they could sacrifice him to their dark masters, Griswold, the faithful blacksmith, who had gone into the church to look for survivors from the mob raid, found Wirt and rescued him.

Wirt changed after that. He became a dark, morbid child with a selfish love of money and wealth. He began to peddle rare and expensive items he received from various sources. His mother, Canace, was heartbroken, and her son's transformation, along with the stress of all the other troubles happening in town, eventually took their toll on her. Canace died of a broken heart.

Wirt remained unmoved. As adventurers arrived, hearing of their troubles, he used the opportunity to make money off of them, and when the troubles were over, thanks to the mysterious Wanderer, Wirt was almost disappointed to see them go.

When the Wanderer left, and the demons returned to Tristram, Wirt was killed and left dead by the northern river.

-----------------------------------------------------

Witchfire
The Unholy

But, like his kinsmen before him, Wyand slowly began to darken, in mind and spirit, suppressed by the heavy will of Mephisto, whose Soulstone resided beneath the Guardian Tower. Through the Lord of Hatred's subtle machinations, the Archbishops overthrew Khalim, slew him, and shattered the Soulstone. Senkekur was promoted to Que'Hegan, and pierced their hands with the seven shards that remained.

Wyand lent his magical abilities to the defense of Mephisto, but it was all for nought, as he was murdered by the adventurers from the West.

The Mad

Zhar the Mad was a scholar who sold his soul for longevity; enough to study in peace. He travelled the world, taking time to study every scrap of parchment he came across. Then, he came to Tristram.

Sneaking into the catacombs, he found the ancient scrolls and books of the Horadrim, and set up shop as the world went on around him. He spent his years in silence, reading and researching, even as Lazarus shattered the soulstone, he continued heedlessly.

However, one night, as many adventurers were raiding the labyrinth looking for demons, one stumbled upon his lair. Zhar, bored with them, gave them a book to pacify them, but when they continued to pry, Zhar grew impatient, and battled. He lost, and was killed.

:flame:

dafür hast dir schonmal 'nen grossen :keks: verdient!
good work and thx

:hy:

Bartuc was again called into service by the Dark Lords when Baal began his takeover of Mt. Arreat. He was reincarnated into human form, demented as the High Council of Zakarum, serving as one of the five protectors of Baal. He was defeated.

Achja ... D1 Mukke >> D2 Mukke :D.

However, during the retaking of the barracks, the Smith was killed and the Malus was returned to its rightful owner, Charsi.
Snotspill <- Sollte wohl auch noch in Grün und groß sein

Snotspill was one of the leaders of the Fallen armies in Tristram. With a pack of his lesser kindred at his back, Snotspill made a daring raid on the town, stealing the sign of the Tavern of the Rising Sun. Snotspill believed the sign to have magical powers, referring to it as the "magic banner."

However, Snotspill was accosted by Overlords, who stole the sign and locked it in a chest for their future use.

Snotspill met with a human adventurer, commissioning him to steal the sign back from the Overlords, or "big uglies." When the sign was returned to him, however, he attacked the adventurer, but was killed in the ensuing battle.
Soulpus

A townsman who died in the raid masterminded by Lazarus, Soulpus was reanimated as a scheming zombie who struck from the shadows at any who ventured into his lair. However, he struck the wrong man, and was killed.

yes Sir,

Gute Arbeit soweit :top:
Denke mal ich kann euch auch beim übersetzen helfen (kann Englisch besser als Deutsch :P *Amis 4 Life*)

Nett :)

Zwischendrin waren wohl mal Bilder, die Kommentare "Art by ..."
